First off, sorry for 2 related posts so close together but I wanted to make this decision quick and put this at the top :)

I am trying to decide if it's worth $90 (education pricing) to upgrade the top end 27" iMac from the 1GB 6970M to the 2GB version. If I don't spend the $90 there I'd probably spending it going from 4GB of RAM to 12 or 16.

I do want to game on this thing but most of my usage is Internet, music, basic photo/video editing and work/school stuff.

Thoughts?

Also I can have the 1GB today. The 2GB is custom order :)

I got the 1GB, figured the 6970M is too weak of a GPU to be worth 2GB - aka the resolutions and settings you'll need 2GB with you'll be at unplayable framerates anyway.

Basically this. There is a point where 2GB makes sense, but that's really for users who have multiple monitors.

With an already massive 27" screen capable of running a browser on one side, and a dvd video on the other side, I am more than happy with the massive real estate. If I need another monitor, it'll solely be hooked up to my PS3. I have no need for 2GB worth of graphics memory, as the iMac won't be powering another monitor. Thought about it, but it'd be a waste of $100 really, better spent on ram.
