Hey everyone, just got my computer up and running again due to the terrible drivers from AMD.

As of right now I have a clean format and wanted to know what are the necessary steps to install the XFX Radeon 6870 Drivers.

I also wanted to know which drivers that some of you guys are using for the 6870 is 'safest' to use as of now.(No CCC errors when removed etc.)

In conclusion:
Do I install the drivers beginning with the Disc? then Updating to a more current one?

Or do I just update straight to a current one?
If so, which driver patch is it?

Don't install the drivers on the disc. go get the up to date drivers from AMD. Assuming everything is clean on your current install and all up to date. You should be able to install, reboot, and be all set.

Just for the record, I haven't heard of any AMD drivers that are unsafe at all. ;)

I picked up 11.5 for my HD6850, no issues here. But then, I have never had issues with ATi/AMD going from X850 to X1900XT to HD3870 to HD4870 to HD6850.

Had a experience like this after picking up a 6990 and bc2 was giving me worst then gtx460 performance.

I uninstall bc2,i uninstall the drivers.

I go ahead and reinstall the drivers my system locks up in the middle of the installation and every mode of f8 would just send my pc into a loop boot i was stuck having to format as well.

6990 went back in trade for a gtx580 i hope you find your good working driver but that isnt the first amd card ive had issues with :( dual 5770,6850 also gave me issues

If your screen is going black, it may be that the monitor output switches after you install the driver. This has happened to me before and I fixed it by plugging the monitor into the other DVI connector.

Of course, this may not be the same issue you're having but it's worth a try.

I've got an XFX 6870 and, in recent times, have used 11.2, 11.4, 11.5 and 11.5b without any problems.

Yeah, that happened to me with my old 4870
