Just getting a thread up for this. Navi 24 will ride... Q1 2022... ish.

I fugure the 6500XT lands ~5500XT territory for ~$200.

RX 550 is superior in the encoding dept. If 6500 XT was supposed to be its replacement, it would have preserved the RX 550's basic capabilities. AMD is either pretending that gamers don't really have any need to encode or going forward, they will market encoding capabilities as a premium feature worthy of minimum RX 6600, RX 7600 etc.

The real kicker will be if RX 6500 or 6400 somehow launch WITH encoding capabilities.

I sometimes wonder if dedicated encoder cards might make a comeback. With streaming the market is larger and with GPU shortages it's hard to get the encoders, especially at a reasonable price. Probably to much of the bottom of the market has been eaten by video cards though.

Nah, just no need. I'd be really interested how Apple's hardware processing card sold. But its telling that they're touting I believe similar or superior processing capabilities of their SoC now and while they have some hardware processing blocks, I wouldn't think it'd be enough to provide what they say. I'm actually wondering if their card might've been running early version of their SoC or a chip made just from the video processing blocks?

Just great, competition at the low-end for the GTX 1050 ti. What else did they cripple. If the RX 6400 isn't purely slot-powered, it has no point.

But how many of the cards will we see without needing PCI-E power, versus AIB "overclocked" (by 25Mhz core clock) cards sporting a power connector, like it's something that makes a video card more "powerful".
Im pretty sure 99.99999% of those AIB cards won't have 6 pin connector.

Mainly because: this GPU will have very thin margins, because of the price. Nobody sane will OC this GPU, and potentially increase the costs of PCB and VRMs.

- The 6400 STS XTREME 3D VR Edition - 300mm PCB - 3.5 slot 450W cooler - first ever OCTO fan cooling - new 16 pin PCI-E power connector - 76W power consumption just so it exceeds PCI-E spec - 25Mhz AIB OC - MSRP $300.

AIB's wondering how they can keep the gravy train rolling - priceless.

It is slot powered, but the pcb has the holes for a 6-pin connector, maybe it shares the pcb with a 6500xt model.
Ive been told there is no embargo or anything, so im going to run some benchs tomorrow, but the first pc is a 10100f model, if i have time im going to swap the cpu for a 11400f to re-test with pcie 4.0.

What would be really interesting, would be 8GB variants of the RX 6500 and 6400, and the 6400 8GB still not needing a PCI-E connector. Holy heck, that would SELL. 8GB and no PCI-E power. Has that ever been done before, in the consumer space?

You'll get 6 GB and no 6 pin connector with A380 :p.

I was thinking of that, actualy. "Doesn't Intel have a 6GB card with no PCI-E coming out"?

Still, AMD (Radeon) is a stronger, more trusted brand of GPUs, and if they can squeeze out an 8GB no pcie card, so much the better.

The 6400 is gonna be worse than Rembrandt because of the bottleneck. I imagine AMD has stopped Navi 24 production by now and this DIY release is meant to speed up getting rid of the chips.

Ok here we go, i dont have any new AAA titles to test so this does not represent in any way modern AAA gaming. Also avg fps does not tell the whole story, with the 10100F (and pci-e 3.0) i was having issues in some games with fps going to single digits for a short time every now and then, this is a clear pcie bandwidth issue, for example with RDR2, when Arthur is running out of the store and he shoots the first guard, fps drops to nothing in that moment, every time. Something that does not happens on the same system with a 11400. And i know it is the pcie and not the CPU because it also happens with the 4700S were i did some tests with the 6500XT a few weeks ago. Assessin creed Origins is another game that is severely affected by pcie bandwidth, even trough VRAM should be enoght.

There is any way for me to be sure this thing has the full 16MB IC?

AMD making a 6300 now too. OEM only most likely. It's probably the same as the 6300M - the infinity cache is cut to 8 MB and the memory is a measly 2 GB.

32 bit memory channel then.
