Just getting a thread up for this. Navi 24 will ride... Q1 2022... ish.

I fugure the 6500XT lands ~5500XT territory for ~$200.

Prices of imagery land far far away, this $150 GTX1650. Actual real price is around $350. Indeed it is pitched as 1650 competitor. And it's cheaper and significant upgrade.

Significant upgrade? Right. I think this graph says it all:

Ok my thoughts,

If we had this release in a parallel universe where Graphics card prices were like it was here two years ago then this card would be horrible.

But, returning to our universe where Graphics Card prices have sky rocketed, I believe it is a nice alternative for a new build at its price point. But its a no go as an upgrade if you have PCIe Gen 3.0.

For a new low budget 1080p gaming PC for early 2022 its the best choice by todays standards,

Core i3 12100F
B660 Mobo (PCIe gen 4.0)
16GB DDR4 3600
RX 6500XT

According to hardware unboxed review, the RX 6500XT is 30% faster (PCIe Gen 4.0) vs the GTX1650 at the same or lower price.

So yes its terrible for what we used to have, its better option vs the competition for a new build with PCIe Gen 4.0 and a no go if you considering upgrading and you have a mobo with PCIe Gen 3.0

If it was meant for low-end laptops did they exclude the encode and AV1 decode because the iGPU has it already?

But between the bad reviews, low memory and tiny die they should be able to make enough of these to meet demand

Also no one should buy 4GB card for AAA gaming if you are not willing to do big compromises. This was true 5 years ago.
Honestly, I think that they should have done both a 4GB and an 8GB model. After all, making it only 4GB is NO GUARANTEE that miners won't buy it, there are plenty of altcoins to mine with only a 4GB VRAM GPU. Likewise, at least an 8GB VRAM buffer wouldn't have made this card SO limited, especially with the PCI-E 3.0 x4 too.

How much would an 8GB card cost (MSRP, excluding effects from miners)? $229? $249? Would have been WAY worth it, IMHO.

It says "I'm cherry picking to make my argument". Also no one should buy 4GB card for AAA gaming if you are not willing to do big compromises. This was true 5 years ago.

This card is not an upgrade to anyone with a GTX1050TI, 1650, 1650S, 1660, RX570, RX 580, RX 5500XT, GTX1060. Even with PCI-E 4.0 this thing can fall below GTX1650 on some cases. And below GTX1050TI on some cases PCI-E 3.0. And all those are really OLD GPUs.

The only people who can think about getting this are the ones with GTX1050 2GB / GT 1030 / RX 560 / RX 550, thats it. And the ones running Intel HD and AMD apus but guess what? chances are all those people have PCI-E 3.0!!!!! And people with APUs all have 3.0... the only people who can really think about getting this is Intel 11th users with a 500 series chipset.... what left me thinking for what this GPU is for. Even on laptops the AMD CPUs are 3.0.

This is not a compromise, it is a worthless, cash-in GPU.

If you can get the 6500XT at MSRP what is not a given.

But even in that case this will be very short lived, considering what i saw with the DG1, i fully expect the small DG2 to destroy this whiout any x4 pcie encoder/decoder BS. You know it is a dark day when Intel is the only hope.

If DG2 destroy it it will be more expensive, much like the new nvidia 3050.

And this is were we need to remember that AMD artificially limited revised versions of B450 motherboards and A520 to PCI-e 3.0. And H510 has 4.0 provided you use an 11th gen.

JFC, this thing also gets beat by the 1050 Ti at PCIE-3.0 in Rainbow Six Siege and F1 2021 in their benchmarks at settings that would be sensible for a 1080p budget card. What a trash release.

Most at $199 msrp, a couple of higher end stuff hitting 279-299. None in stock.

Don't forget this Asus TUF Gaming model newegg was selling for $360.

It says "I'm cherry picking to make my argument".

If you're on PCIe 3.0, best to just forget this card exists.

https://www.techpowerup.com/review/amd-radeon-rx-6500-xt-pci-express-scaling/

In fact, even if you have a PCIe 4.0 capable system, this would only be worth getting if you've no other choice. Asking $300+ for this? I don't even know where to begin.

If you can get the 6500XT at MSRP what is not a given.

A single wafer churns out over 500 of these cuties. Probably around 10 times as many as Navi21 cards.

Guys, I am making a poll here.

DOWNVOTE me if you prefer AMD not releasing this chip to retail over the current release.

UPVOTE me if you prefer the current release over not releasing this chip to retail.

If the 3050 were to be avalible at MSRP (haha) AMD would have to cut this gpu down to $100 the next day. The 6500XT is MSRPing way out of his league. Thats the real issue here. Same applies to the small DG2 if it has similar price/perf to the 3050.

It's 64-bit so 2 chips only.

Actually, I think if there wasn't the availability issues we have currently, this card would have been priced at $100-115 dollars. At which point it would be a great card for that price. But, its priced where it is because at that price, its still the cheapest current gen card on the market (unless there is a cheaper one I am not thinking of).

I suspect GDDR6 pricing is high and availability is limited. I remember reading something anout this.

Maybe an 8gb model will drop later.

Why would you buy a new GPU for a PCIE 3.0 system? The folks buying these cards are building budget systems. Rocket Lake and Zen 2 both supported PCIE 4. Sure, AMD should have went with x8, but I feel like all of this is overblown.

I hope AMD floods the market with these things. The dies are extremely small, so it is easy to produce the dies themselves en mass.
