Just purchased one of these. Now all graphics screwed up. Can't run installed games:kicked back to Windows;or graphics garbled.Freeze up constantly. Error messages:Fatal exception,etc.etc. Sound from real player garbled until ATI WDM Rage Theater Video disabled in device mgr. On phone for over an hour with ATI tech support(MY COST!)no help." Some software incompatability"Have tried all available drivers. Any ideas appreciated before I box this sucker up for refund. Running Athlon500 on FIC sd 11 with Win98,128ram,aureal vortex sound card.Thanks,E.Smith :disgust:

Hello there...Just one thing to try is to remove the sound card and it's drivers and see if the problem persists, if not then there is a conflict with those two. Ensure that your old video drivers were properly uninstalled prior to installing the video card, like change video adapter to Standard PCI and then remove old drivers reboot then install new drivers. ect..

1. Change to std vga, reboot, reinstall drivers
2. Install latest 4in1 VIA drivers
3. Boot to safe mode, look at display adapters, remove any 3dfx you see. (I've seen damn 3dfx drivers show up in safe mode after uninstalling in normal mode)
4. Does your power supply have adequate current for a real AGP card, assuming you had 3dfx before this?
5. Throw away FIC board, read nothing but bad stuff about them
6. Are you using the latest Radeon drivers, motherboard bios?
7. fdisk/format/reinstall OS with just fdd/hdd/vid card/cdrom- install rest one device at a time

This should get you started.

Gametime,Thanks for suggestion. Had removed all older video drivers but will now try removing sound card. Had no IRQ conflicts but maybe sound drivers?😕 Jethro, thanks for ideas. Never had 3dfx; have lastest via4in1 drivers;installed from standard vga with newest Radeon regular and special purpose drivers.Fic only Athlon board available when I got rig. Have not flashed Bios,am afraid to mess with it as I hear bad stories about screwed up Bios. Board very stable with Rage Pro Fury AGP. Hate to even think about re-formatting;I don't need Radeon that much. It was a good deal on trade in,that's all. If I can't get it going I'll spend money on CD burner. More Useful.🙂

Well keep us up to date with whats going on, others will jump in and offer suggestions.. I know that sometimes sound cards often cause conflicts with video cards, either outdated drivers or just have to find that right PCI slot that makes everyone happy.. Dont give up.

Edward:
Your post gave me another idea.
I am not sure about this one, maybe someone else can add to this?
Doesn't the Radeon require an AGP 2.01 standard slot? Maybe early FIC boards didn't have this?
Not sure, but might be worth researching.

BTW- I had an FIC/P100 board back in the day that I had no problems with whatsoever, and it seems to me I remember Tom Pabst dissed it. (he was about it for site like this back then-taught us all to overclock)

Took sound card out an re-installed Radeon. No help. Fic SD11 supports 2xAGP. Radeon specs call for 2x/4xAGP. I e-mailed FIC to see if they had a fix but have never, ever heard back from any Taiwan outfit. Going to re-install Rage pro so kids can play games and wait a few days for ideas. If nothing I'll send it back for refund. Too bad;supposed to be great card.

Jethro, you were right on the money. Looks like SD11 AGP support problem. Expansion Slots

1 AGP v1.0, 5 PCI v2.1 compliant, 1 ISA
:disgust: Unfortunately trade up deal for Radeon was only for AGP.I lose!

Wait, is the sd11 based on the AMD Irongate chipset? Maybe you shouldn't install the 4-in-1 drivers.
