Hi,

I am having insurmountable difficulties trying to get my Radeon card to work with this motherboard using the Via 266 chipset.

This is a Radeon 64 DDR Vivo card.

I just upgraded my motherboard to a Soltek SL75-DRV double data rate board. (The exact same problem happens when we try the Epox 8KHA motherboard, too.) It uses the Via 266 chipsets. I have upgraded the BIOS to the 2nd revision, which as of Sept 15, 2001 is the the newest.

I have 512 MB of DDR RAM, an IBM 75GXP hard drive, an Adaptec 2940 SCSI card, and a Yamaha 4260 SCSI CDRW and Toshiba 32x SCSI CD player, a Creative Labs Soundblaster Live! card and Realtech 8139 NIC. My monitor is a 19 inch NEC MultiSync FE950+.

When I boot into Windows 2000 the system will freeze SOLID after only a minute or so, and often immediately if I open a program like Outlook Express or try to resize a window. This happens at any resolution.

I have installed all of the W2k service packs. I have tried several of the ATi Windows 2000 drivers, starting with the official 3102 drivers. I have also used the latest Via 4.33 drivers. None have worked.

The only drivers that let me work problem free are the generic Windows 2000 VGA drivers from Microsoft. It will also work correctly if I boot into VGA mode after using the F8 key at boot up.

We have also formatted the hard drive and reinstalled Windows 2000 to see if it would help, but it still freezes the PC in the exact same manner!

Please help! I love my Radeon card and want it to work with this Soltek motherboard.

Can't help, but ditch the crap mobo before the Radeon card if it comes to that. And stop supporting VIA's crap products. That is all.

Snow,

That is almost my feeling, too! The Radeon is the best all around video card I've ever owned. But this Soltek board is extremely fast, as well, being one of the three fastest Tom's Hardware has tested, so I'm less than happy that they won't work together :(

I set up a couple of 8KHA KT266 boards for customers with ATI Xpert2000 Pro and a Radeon 32mb DDR and they worked fine.... Di you install Via' AGP driver before the vid card drivers?

Man, I have tried just about everything to get this Radeon to behave. I've ionstalled and uninstalled all the drivers numerous times. I've also posted this question on a couple of the ATi related sites, still no definitive answer.

We even tried an All in Wonder AGP card and it also puked out :(

I have a Radeon 64 DDR Vivo on an MSI K7T266. It's great for video capture and editing. I'm using Windows 98SE. The only problem is that this motherboard doesn't support USB if the FSB is greater than 137MHz.:(
