I am using the system you see in my sig.

I saw that the gpu in msi afterburner was showing 100 percent load. I saw in gpuz that it was showing the same.

I uninstalled msi afterburner. no change.

I don't really have anything opened that would be causing this. I don't really know why..

any ideas?

thanks :)

*edit i am not using crossfire anymore, this is a one card system. I sold the other 5850. thanks*

question, was your GPU perhaps downclocking itself severely? (to save power in 2d rendering of the desktop)?

Check gpuZ again, see if it is 100% @ max clockspeed or 100% and a ridiculously low clockspeed.

the clocks were fine. this gpgpu thing works well?

actually, if the clocks were very very low then they would be fine (they are supposed to, to save electricity when idle)... if the clocks at are max and you are still getting 100% usage when not playing a game then there is an issue.

MSI Afterburner was screwing up my 6850, same thing was happening to me, GPU @ 100% all the time. Had to reinstall MSI AB and install the newest beta (2.05?) but it was still doing it, so i just went back and stuck with sapphire trixx. I don't know if that an option for you though, i heard trixx was limited to 6x00 series.

I have this issue consistently with my Radeon 5850 whenever I have Firefox 4 Beta 8/9 running - I'm assuming it's a bug with its GPU acceleration feature. I didn't have an issue up until Beta 3 (which is around the time I moved to Chrome exclusively) but I noticed one day the UAC notification popup was taking about 10 seconds to dim my desktop.

Initially it happened whenever I had Firefox running. Then it started to get stuck at 100% usage even after I had closed the browser. (Everything would be OK until the time I had launched Firefox)

Remove Firefox 4 Beta (if you have it installed and reboot your computer) if it's a persistent problem.

Yes - I had similar problems with Firefox beta (not 100% GPU usage, but 3D clocks and voltage along with elevated temps). I uninstalled Firefox (after reporting the problem via the beta feedback program).
