Radeon 5830 will not fit

Hello. I'm building my first computer and ran into a problem at the very end. I'm trying to fit my Radeon 5830 into a Gigabyte 790XT motherboard within a NXZT Lexa S case.

Technically speaking, everything should fit. The motherboard is secured with 9 screws, the sound card is flush with the board and installed with ease. The video card however, will not fit properly. The back end connectors go in first no matter how much I try and balance out the pressure I put on the card. This makes the front connectors wiggle up just enough that a connection can't be made, which also brings it out of alignment with the case. Here's a pic if it helps:

So I thought to step away before I blow a gasket and ask you fine folks what could be wrong here. If nothing else, I'd like to know which of the three components is the problem.

Is the front plate of the card, nearest the edge of the motherboard, being obstructed so the tab does not progress into the case?

Nope. There are no obstructions. The front connector just pops back out when I push the card in.

Are you trying to install the card while the case is vertical? The weight of the cooler could be pulling the card out of the slot before you have a chance to screw it in. Lay the case down on its back (so the mobo is facing up) and push the card in with gravity on your side.

Then screw it in.

It looks like the front plate is not going in. Focus on getting that in position first and the card will be lined up perfectly with the connectors

If I line it up over the screw holes and push down, the front connectors won't budge. Eventually the back connectors give, they go down and the front connectors go up. Everything is out of alignment. My hands are getting sore from trying this so many times.

Front/Back? [confusion]

On the Back, plate with Connections on backside of Case, use a standard screwdriver and wedge at the bottom(where the Plate is near the Motherboard) a little bit, then press down on the Card. The end of the Plate is likely jammed on the Case.

You sure you used standoffs for each of the 9 screws?

Looks like I'll be ordering a dunce cap with a motherboard.

Should I even bother trying again? There's a small scratch on the back of the mobo along with the grinded screw holes...

Put in standoffs and give it a go. Damage to the screwholes won't matter, the scratch could matter, but might just be superficial.

Cool, appreciate the help guys. Sorry for wasting your time with a newbie mistake.
