I din' even bother checkin' the psu for this comp (for friend), assuming it's prolly barely 500w if not much lower

he just bought it nearly a month ago, dual core Intel chip, prolly the entry level ones that are literally half the speed of the core 2 e4300 if you know what I'm talkin' about.. lol

I need someone with experience on upgrading gfx cards on cloning company machines (mass prebuilds), and recommend if a higher end gpu is worth it or not.

guy wants to play COD-4, but wondering if the new cheap Intel CPU's are even gonna hold up.

wondering if the 9600 will do cod 4 pretty well, since the psu requirements are slightly more acceptable?

It'll likely be a 300W PSU, 350W at most.

Just pop in a better PSU, like the Corsair VX450, as an example, & a 4850 would be fine.

Obviously knowing all the system specs would help, but there's no reason why you cannot upgrade to a better card.

Be aware the really long cards don't fit in the Acer cases, but IIRC, the 9" or shorter do work...you'll want to measure to be sure.

what company and model made it?
pre-built systems are a lot more expandable than you think, though you'll have to upgrade the PSU (they only come in 300w for most OEM systems), and possible remove some hard drive cages if they get in the way.
If that CPU is "half the power of a e4300", then don't bother with higher end cards like the 4850, you won't get that much more performance increase over something like a 9600 GT, it will be bottlenecked a lot (I know- look at my system specs)

Not sure what is "half the power of a e4300"... single core? Or Pentium e21x0 (half the model number, LOL)? If the latter, the e21x0 are still solid CPUs for gaming, particularly if you can find some way round the OEM BIOS and take advantage of their great overclocking overhead.

damn... upgrading the psu will be pathetic on an Acer Aspire desktop.

would be a waste with the incredibly weak mobo and cheaper Intel CPU.

how will an 8600 hold up in Cod_4 with the Intel CPU?

Weak mobo has nothing to do with it - weak CPU maybe. I agree that a 4850 is overkill though and I would maybe look for a very cheap 3850 if one could be found.

isn't the 3850 still considered highend in the 3K series (psu requirements as well)? how would the cpu keep up with it?

If it's one game he needs to play, you get the card that will give you enough FPS to play it with the CPU and screen resolution in mind - there will probably be a % of bottleneck of course. 8600GT-GTS or the new HD4670 might work ok as well.

Radeon 4670 requires at least 400w, and that's still pushing it on cheap prebuilt PSU

150 shipped can get modular 530w and 9600gt 512mb on newegg.com

I don't remember if the new e2xxx CPU's are of the same socket as the e6600's? prolly grab a 2mb core2 to replace this cheap cpu if anyone can clarify, thx

Keep the CPU and throw in a 4670. The PSU should be able to handle it; the CPU will be fine for gaming; it is equivalent (non-OC'd) to a middle-range X2.
