The title says it all, my RAdeon 3870 is running really hot. The fan's apparently running very slow, and I can't hear it over the other fans in the box. Does anyone have any ideas?

Or just leave it be and be glad its silent because that is the way its meant to operate?

better to have a little more noise than a dead card.

I agree with CrystalBay. Download and install Riva Tuner. Adjust the fan settings to find a good compromise for fan speed and temperature. Also, I'm a little curious - Exactly how hot is your HD3870 running? My HD2900XT reaches a peak temperature of around 70C when gaming while running about 45~C on idle.

I have a 3850, but it was getting close to the 90s! The fan wouldn't go above 40% for some reason. When I noticed this, I immediately installed atitool and set the temps, it stays below 75 now.

I had the same problem, but after about a week using ATI Tool the fan stopped working at all. I sent it back, but it will probably be another week before I get a replacement :(

Uh oh, man that makes me nervous.

Anyone know what the 3850/70s maximum specified operating temperatures are supposed to be?

Doesn't matter that much. How long are you going to have your card? 90 is a bit hot. If you could get it to 80 I bet you it would last you 5 years, which is a lot longer than you'll probably have it.

I'm not sure, but mine was getting hot enough that it was making my computer shut down while playing games. It got worse over time, to the point that I could only play Oblivion for about 5-10 minutes before my computer would shut down so I opened the case up and turned the fan speed up. That worked for about a week, then it got bad again and I found out the Fan stopped turning at all. I RMA'd the part, and it is now another two weeks before I get it back. I will be without a computer for a month because NewEgg sold me a bad part ... GRRR....

i wouldnt go above 95-97, and try to stay in the 80's under load (or lower) if possible.

may have to clean your fan every once in a while with duster canned air. or reseat the heatsink with some AS5

Well, I tried rivatuner, but I couldn't figure it out and it wasn't detecting the card temp anyways. Does anyone have any other ideas?
