Radeon 32MB DDR LE question

I read that the LE is a severly crippled version of the Radeon and I'm not sure if it is worth the price. Just a few questions to clear my mind.

1. What is the performance like?
2. Does it include tv-out?
3. How do I identify it? (how do I know that I'm getting the LE?)
4. Is it stable in Win98?

Any other comments welcome.

1. If you do the registry hack and overclock it, it performs the same as a regular Radeon DDR. If not, I think it performs as well as a GeForce2 MX, maybe better.
2. newegg.com sells both ones with tv-out and without
3. I believe the LE's don't have a fan on the heatsink.
4. Depends on who you ask. I bought one from newegg about a month ago and it kept crashing my computer, even after a full reinstall of Win98SE and trying about 6 different driver revisions. I finally gave up and returned it.

Should I rather go for a Geforce 2 MX ? I know it is not as fast but stability and price is the main issue.

I have the Radeon LE and it is working perfectly fine for me. Better than my MX that I had. I have the card tweaked (HyperZ and other stuffage) and oc'd up to 166/166. Performs quite nicely on my system:)

There are a lot of tweaker programs out there that will enable hyper z or you can do it yourself in the registry. I have one and it outperforms my MX stock by a pretty large margin. I was nervous myself but I bit the bullet and bought one. It is running great and I like it a lot.

I have a radeon LE in Windows 98SE. It runs 100% stable (don't know why it would be unstable. It's better to re-install Windows for a new Video Card anyway).

Go to www.rage3d.com to get the newest drivers/utilities. I use a program called 'Raid-On Tweaker' for overclocking and enabling Hyper-Z. I run my card at 175-183 MHz core/clock.

The Radeon LE does NOT have tv-out. I think there was one at one point but it completely disappeared without a trace!

The video quality is excellent: much better than any GeForce (ATI cards and Matrox cards have the best 2d). The Radeon LE also has better 3d quality than a GeForce. It's faster than a GF2MX, but slower than a GTS/Pro.

Oh yeah, I think the card you read that was 'severely crippled' was the Radeon-VE. It has 1 pipeline (instead of 2) and no TCL (ATI's Transform Clipping and Lighting).

Hope this helps!

The Radeon LE w/ TVO is currently available from Newegg. They just got it back in stock and mine should be here tomorrow. ($85 + 8 shipping). Great price for a card that kind of offers it all.
