I have an olllld motherboard with a k6-2 processor. It has an AGP slot however, it does not say whether the AGP is 1x 2x etc. I'm guessing one though, the chipset is made by ALI but I have no idea as to who the manufacturere of the mobo is. Anyway, will the Radeon which the the box says with 2x/4x agp slots work with a 1x agp slot? Right now I can get it to boot up with no drivers installed or in safemode but, the system freezes with the drivers installed on boot up normally.

AGP 1x and AGP 2x are both part of the same AGP 1.0 spec.

A 2X card will fit in a 1X slot, BUT, it double-pumps the AGP bus that 1X only single-pumps.

Many 1X boards have BIOS updates available allowing them to take advantage of the 2X speed, that's why the other guy was telling you that.

If you can get video for bios setup etc, but not with the drivers then your board does not support the card.

Look for a BIOS update.

It'll work just fine.
An ATi board is a good choice, as the Radeon tends to have better compatibility with older Socket7 platforms then do most modern cards.

FWIW, if it's an ALi based Socket7 mainboard with an AGP slot then it's based on the ALi ALADDiN 5 chipset as that is the old Socket7 chipset from ALi to support an AGP slot.
The ALADDiN 5 is AGP 1X/2X compatible. A pretty decent Socket7 chipset, generally performed better then solutions.

I ran my Radeon 32DDR with my old K6-2 system for a few months and it was a very painful process. I had a FIC VA-503+ motherboard which I think supported AGP 2x. Even with this support the card was never very stable and I had all sorts of problems with it. (This was after upgrading from a 3DFx Banshee which ran perfectly).

After upgrading the rest of my system to an Athlon system, all the problems with the Radeon went away. I know I have heard from others that too had problems with Super7 systems and the Radeon. So I would say, look for another card; maybe something from NVidia.

In theory it'll work but old VIA/ALi motherboards are notorious for AGP related problems.
