Hey guys,
Well, it looks like the Elsa GF2 Ultra deal fellt through and my Rage Fury just isn't cutting it these days, I have found an ATI Radeon 32MB DDR board for $130 shipped but wondered how much faster a Geforce II GTS equipped board would be over the Radeon ???

What is the cheapest you have seen a GTS, I can't seem to find one in my price range :(

Well, thanks for your input !!

Update: Check my last post for details on the VIA incident, thanks !!

The extra speed you will get with a Geforce is not worth sacraficing the better image quality in 2D as well as 3D you would gain with a Radeon. In addition there are rumors of new unified drivers for the Radeon might be coming out soon so speed wise the Radeon has no where to go but up. So to answer your question, go with the Radeon ;).

The image quality is THAT much better ? Wow !! That is interesting....

Does anybody know where there is some benchmarks with the both the Radeon and a Geforce of some flavor or maybe just some Radeon benchmarks.... ?

Thanks everyone !

I was pretty much in your shoes a few weeks ago. I was doing the debate and opted for the Radeon for the aforementioned reasons. I'll let you know if I like it :p (Its at my leasing office).

The Radeon 32MB DDR does not have any TV Input/Output connections correct ?? Only the AIW and 64MB versions...

Come on! Even with the quality, I would not pick the Radeon over the GTS, simply because of its great 3D performance. If you go with the GTS, I assure you it won't be a bad one. Actually, neither is a bad choice, it's just that I like more FPS. :)

Comp10, I wouldn't call the 2D quality a sacrifice... My brother has a GTS and the 2D quality isn't really that bad.

BigLance, did you click on the links I supplied? There are benchmarks to look at there...

i guess it depends on the types of games you play. If you want mad fps, then nothing beats the gts. but if you're down with image quality, the radeon should serve you well. either way, i'd pick the gts. as if i cared about how pretty q3 characters look when they're getting fragged.

Either way you're getting a good card.

The Radeon supplies you with good 32bit performance as well as good image quality. And remember that image quality won't make much of a difference unless you have a good monitor to view it on.

The GTS provides you with pure 16bit speed unmatched by any card. So if games that require more oomph come out in the following years you would probably be able to play in 16bit without a hicup.

But why would anyone play in 16bit?? I have a radeon 32MB DDR and i'm very happy with it. It also has alot of features like superior DVD encoding and for me it doesn't really make a difference if I get 80fps or 100fps. Also good 2d image quality does make a difference if you're on your computer for more then a few minutes everyday.

Oh, I saw your post but missed the benchmarks, thanks bro !

Well here is where I'm at, let me know what you think. I am trying to find the Creative GF2 GTS as cheap as possible, if I can find it cheap enough I'll get it to go along with my Creative X-Gamer sound card. If I can't get it cheap enough its going to be a 32MB DDR Radeon and a ATI TV-Wonder card.

Thanks for the help !

I just read on a website that the Creative GTS doesn't work right on VIA chipsets ??? WThell ? I though Anand tested this card on an Athlon system, was it not a Via athlon or was this "reviewing consumer" blowing smoke out his bung ???

I have a GF2 on a K7V and it runs rock solid and fast. There aren't any problems with that combo.

I just dont know, I am stuck. I really want to be able to put my incoming signal from my Sercuity system onto my desktop so I can watch who's comeing down the drive way and who is doing what in my house but then I want some framerates that will last. Also, I have a pretty damn good monitor- 19" Viewsonic G790 and plan to upgrade to a 22" p22of not to far off in the future. I also use high res's so maybe I should consider the image quality !!

Hmmm......
