I don't know whats going on..I swapped this card today from a geforece 2mx. Im sure i downloaded the right driver, but in display, powerstrip and 3dmark it all say its a radeon 7200. Also this card is suppose to outperform the geforce 2 mx cards, and it gets no where close the frames it does with the geforce. Whats GOING ON!

All cards using the Radeon (R100) core will be recognized by ATi drivers as Radeon 7200s, as that's ATi's new designation for the R100 core.

As for performance, the Radeon LE is clocked to 150/150 stock, but uses Samsung 6ns (166mhz) ram. My Radeon LE was completely stable at 190/190 core and memory clocks (using the stock heatsink), so just download an overclocking utility such as the Rage3D tweaker or Powerstrip.

Just like the Radeon 8500, the older Radeons also have the advantage of ATi's intelligent anisotrophy, so you can enable that with only a minor performance hit as well. I think both overclocking utilities I mentioned above have anisotrophy adjustments (I've heard that the sliders that appear in the newer drivers for the Radeon 8500's anisotrophy don't appear for the older Radeons, so you can't adjust it without either a registry edit, an in-game adjustment support, or an overclocking utility).

Edit: Also, if you're using a Win9x/Me OS, then search the web for "Detonator Destroyer". It's a utility that will eliminate all traces of nVidia drivers from your system, to prevent conflicts.

I just went into the BIOS of my dell system.. and it seems you can only set the video memory to either 64 or 256...What is this going to do to my performance because the radeon is 32. As of now, this radeon is performing worst then a tnt. I used the detonator destroyer.

<< Have you done the bios hack to enable hyper-Z on the Radeon LE? >>

That only helps d3d.

In CS with this radeon i get like 40 fps..thats on a p4 1.8ghz with 256 ddr.

This is probably the AGP apeture setting. Probable won't affect overall performance that much. Leave it at 64.

The command to add in console did not help much.. FPS is still dropping. What I don't understand is, quake3 frames are just as good as the geforce, but quake 2 and CS have really low fps. Quake 2 on the geforce ran at 250 fps and now runs at 150. CS use to stay at 71 and never drop, now with even a little gun fire it will drop to 40. I used my old driver to install the card, I remember it use to show the model correctly. This is the first time I ever seen it displayed at 7200. I still believe windows might reconize the card to be a 64 meg card and, therefore, install the 7200. Even though its the same driver, different files are still installed for different cards.

It's a well known fact that the drivers identify the card to Windows as the 7200. You could always try and reload the AGP drivers if you are using a Via/Ali/SiS chipset board, and re-check it. I've had to do that before after experimenting with different drivers and cleaning the registry.
