I am confused. Building a system for the first time and am looking at the Radeon 1650 (PCIe). However, I notice that ATI, Diamondmax, Visiontek and Best Data all offer the Radeon 1650. Does it matter which I was to go with (ie should I just find the least expensive one?

TIA

I would go with the one that offers the best warranty. I believe Visiontek offers lifetime warranty on their video cards so that would be my choice. ATi sometime ago started selling their chips to third party vendors much like nvidia has always done. It used to be it was just ATi making ATi chipped cards, now you see the selection before you....visiontek, diamond, etc etc. Stick with either ATi or Visiontek.

Hell ATI hasn't been a sole graphics card provider for a LOOOOONG time... I'd say way back in the Rage days.. (or maybe even more!)..

X1650 Pro?? crappy??? I'm running a X1600 Pro and it works fine with what I use it for... (CS:S mostly)... getting around 60-70fps at 1024x768 with 4xAA/8xAF..

I wouldn't class that as crappy.. not bad for a card that costs less than a hundred bucks..

The x1650 Pro is just a slightly overclocked x1600 xt and is not the best version of the x1650 you can get. The best version is the x1650 xt which has twice as many pipelines etc etc and is much faster (sometimes twice as fast)! :)

As for which brand to get, I don't think it really matters but I have always purchased either Powercolor or Sapphire when buying anything ATI related.

For the same price you could get a 7600GT, which is a lot faster.

X1600/X1650 (minus X1650 XT): 4-pipeline card with 12 pixel shaders for ~$80
7600GT: 12-pipeline card for $80

Which would you rather have?

Ultimate fail on the X1650 Pro's part.

Visiontek have a lifetime warranty. That's why I bought their version of the HD2900xt, it was hard to find though. I had to order it at dell.com and even then I had to dig around to find it (do random searches on their site for 2900xt and HD2900 until I found it).

That's the one I have. I went from a 9600xt. Couldn't be happier for the price I paid for it. Mine is an actual ATI one. I know there are better cards out there but heck as long as I can play Ut2k4 with maximum bots I'm happy.

The X1650Pro is not poweful enough to make good use of 512MB, so no, it won't help it out. I would agree on getting a better card - at least a 7600GT. The 2600Pro is also a better card for the same price range. You can also get a 2600XT for $80 after rebate from newEgg, which is better than the 7600GT or the 2600Pro.

If you really want a 1650Pro, then here is one for a good price AR:
