You'll see quite the huge performance jump going from a 9700 Pro to something like an X1900XT (particularly if you like high resolutions, AA+AF, etc.). I moved from a 9700 Pro to a 6800GT in the summer of 2004, and that was already a large performance increase (2x or more), and the X1900XT is probably at least 2x faster than my 6800GT. If you can afford it, and it sounds like you can, you'll enjoy it quite a bit if you like to play lots of newer games. ;)

hi yes it looks really a cool card i,m thinkin of the games ive got like fear and call of duty 2 battlefield 2 and half life 2 and far cry i reall like to play old games and it will be nice to see them with full settings on and i cant do this with my old raddy 9700pro so the time is right to retire the old card to my g/f,s rig so you think its a worthwhile upgrade i notice you have the same motherboard as me i cant overclock my cpu much how do you do yours assuming you overclock it is any hints ? cheers

I would strongly recommend getting 2 gigs of ram.

G.SKILL 2GB (2 x 1GB) 2.5-3-3 $145

If you want one of the best kits out there:
OCZ 2GB (2 x 1GB) 2-3-2-5 $170 after $30 MIR

2 gigs will help in games like FEAR, BF2 and upcoming games. I'd also suggest Opteron 165/170 for your vapochill setup. X1900XT will be a huge upgrade from your current setup. I would probably wait 1 week though to see how 7900GT/GTX cards perform. Perhaps 2x7900GTs will be a much better deal for $100 more. The 600 watt model is pretty loud. I'd look into the 500 watt one or Enermax 651 550watt model with 36A on a single rail.

deffinatley go with the suggested single rail 550 enermax model!!!!! you might want to cosider a crossfire board if you are going ATI (new ASUS board) or SLI board if you choose Nvidea .....for futute referance ofcourse.

2 gig is a really really good idea....but i am not sure about the opty suggested..... the 4400x2 athlon has the 1 meg of cach already.

The image quality (Default) are identical, the difference will be that the X1900XT, you can enable FSAA, AF and other effect like FP HDR at high resolutions, the shader quality, the texture quality etc, are identical, super b.
