I drive a fast flashy car; was pulled over 3 times in the first 2 months of ownership (2004); have not been pulled over since I got the V1 in the 3rd month. big fan.

Is the V1 as good as they say ? ? How is the real world range compared to the Escort ? ? ? Does it really do a good job of telling you WHERE the Radar / Lasar is located (front, back, left/right side) ... Personally, I do not like the looks of the V1 .. it needs to be made more attractive / streamlined.

I've never owned an Escort. My V1 has picked up Ka on the NY Thruway at around a quarter mile, mounted on the visor of a Grand Prix. I've also picked up K band through a bridge recently, and it even catches IO traps at long range. As for where it is located, the arrows do work quite well, and I find it helpful to know where the signal is coming from, plus the signal count. Example: a K band fixed sign that is on a street 24/7/365 shows a single count. Escorts, IIRC, will still be howling, but you've already mentally dismissed it; V1 will show two bogeys on that day the cop decides to sit just around the bend from the sign. Forget looks. I had the same consideration, the Escort is a very streamlined unit, but this is something where functionality should be far far more important to you than form.

I agree here, however, NO radar detector is fool proof. IO Ka is starting to pick up in popularity, even with small township LEOs, the only way to be certain you wont get a ticket is to not speed.

After my last ticket (Mar of 09), I had to sell my V1 to pay for it and go back to my trustee V955, however running the V955 is more radar detector hobbiest now since i almost never speed anymore.

The ticket was complete chance and circumstance of which the odds are very low to have happen, but it happened. I was on a 4 lane divided highway, 2 lanes in each direction, full grass median in the middle, the whole 9 yards, easily decked out to be 65MPH, but is 50MPH because it has intersecting streets instead of on/offramps (could still be 60MPH in my opinion). Was talking with the wife about what to do after we got home form the gym (we were on the way to the gym), wasnt watching my speed, was in 4 lane divided highway mode and was around 65, came over a hill, BLAM, v1 goes full blast Ka, cop just HAPPENED to be on the other side of the hill heading in the opposite direction (not stationary) in just the right spot to hit me as i came over the top.

He pulls me and says he got me at 70, i told him i'm sorry i wasnt going faster than 65, he's like well thats still speeding, im like i know but 15 over is a lower citation then 20 over, and i looked at my speedo when you hit me, its 65... he still wrote me for 70, and i had no proof either way, had to pay it. If he had written me for 65 I might have gotten away with not having to sell the V1.

Just saying, RD's are becoming more ticket notifiers than anything else, at least against the non lazy cops. The ones that are hardcore will get you every time, IO Ka or laser (anyone thinking they outbraked a laser ticket with a RD notification is wrong, the cop was just looking for a bigger fish, he had your speed, unless he's a rookie, then MAYBE).

Dont get me wrong, i used to LOVE to speed, still do, but with so many unknowns, and the new tactics of IO Ka and Laser these days, just having a RD isnt enough, and im too poor for Laser Jammers, so i keep it PSL+5 and under.

If i'm in a SUPER hurry, and i can get a good fast rabbit, i MIGHT consider it, if i feel safe, but 99% of the time, no speeding for me.
