I like this thread... does anyone have experience with their Redline products or Smart Mirror?

Both are Escort (Redline and SmartMirror). I think I iwill look for a deal on the 8500 though, the others are too expensive.

That's fine. I drive 170 miles a day. I know where you guys like to sit. I always keep it below 25 over which gives me 95 Mph on my way to work.

Man that's nuts. Where I live, going 25mph over the limit will get a $270 fine and 4 points. Do this twice and your insurance basically doubles. 30mph over the limit requires a mandatory court appearance.

This list I'm looking at also says it's worth $400 and 6 points if I pass a school bus. Holy shit.

Sounds similar to here. 21-25mph over in a 55mph (or under) zone is $206.67. In a 65mph zone, it's $361.67. 26mph over or more is a mandatory court appearance in either case.

I've used the Sti Driver which is what the Redline is attempting to replace (coating with magnesium). From many reports I've read, I heard the Redline, although inside has two antennas used for detection, as opposed to one as with every other detector, is not as effective on some bands as the Sti Driver.

I''m skeptical until I hear more tests.

If you live in the city, go with the 9500ix hands down. The Redline and StiDriver were built for Virginia/Canada and rural areas.

And avoid the old 8500s on Bay that don't say "x50", those are maybe half as effective as the 8500 x50, which is the updated version.

How many times do I have to repeat myself? I am quite familiar with how radar detectors work. If you don't get advance warning (from another vehicle, as I said earlier), you're not going to be able to react fast enough.

yah, that's the kicker. on a nearly empty road a radar detector is useless, because the radar will only be detected when it's used on you. at that point, it's too late.

Which company's products? I provided a link to Radar Detector forums - if it is a speed enforcement countermeasure, somebody there knows more about it than you probably care to hear.

LOL! Good catch on the 160 vs 170. Depends on which way I go.

Well I suppose you're talking about where you're from where there's frequently a lot of times when you're the only car on the road. Sorry, I live in traffic blasted SF Bay Area. There's always other cars.... Even at 2am.

I get pulled over for WAY to much random bullshit that I never get tickets for. I guess my car looks like a drug smuggling mobile or something. I used to speed all the time but now I just set the cruise for 5-7 over.

So the topic is
Radar Detectors: Which one do you have
Yet we get "smart" people posting, I dont need one, useless, blah blah blah...then stay away from this thread....Gosh!
If you do not need or want to drive over the speed limit anytime then good for you but that does not make them useless ...you may not need it but others do so grow up...the world does not revolve around you.
Back to topic...
I got a 8500 X50 which I love. I do not drive crazy but as any human being some times you get carried away or need to get there after having issues getting out of home on time so its good to know that you can go fast and have a decent shot at making it all the way without being stopped by a cop.
Of course, if you think that a radar is going to make you invisible then prepare to be dissapointed.
I find myself more aware of my surroundings with my Radar...weird but it keeps me more alert to everything around me.
Also, dont be stupid, a radar is not going to protect you from accidents so if weather is bad or traffic is "dangerous"...freakin slow down....
I have an MR2 so I won't deny that having that engine just behind my seat makes for an adrenaline pumping sound that is hard to resist but I first let my brain analyze the situation to make sure is "safe" to go a bit faster than the others.
This ain't no game and there is no restart or automatic checkpoint save...when it's over, its over.
Regards

PS if you have been playing with Cobras, or lower end Radars then dont say radars suck...cause you havent tried a RADAR yet.
Go with highend Escort, Bel or V1 or you are better off without a Radar.

LOL, I will get some later :)
Here is one.
I have bigger ones at home.

Pretty stock stuff. I need to pimp it. Then again a pimped MR2 with a radar detector is like going into open sea and swimming with an open wound....asking for trouble lol

Stock & clean is a good look. I may put 16" wheels on mine eventually, but that's probably it. Get a decent stereo and a couple basic engine tweaks and call it a day. :)

None, I drive the speed limit. And I wish cities and states were more strict with enforcing the speed limit. It should be treated like a real crime instead of free money for the government.

Also, I think they may be illegal in my area. And even if they weren't I'd be afraid of making things worse. For all I know it may get confiscated or add a serious surcharge to a speeding ticket. If I could get one built into the body with a little mobile readout (that I could hide in the glove compartment), then I might consider it useful.

On a completely unrelated topic: I dont think it should be up to the government to decide what frequency of electromagnetic radiation I can receive, or how. I understand if they dont want me transmitting on certain bands or specific frequencies, but they shouldn't be allowed to tell me anything else.

Nothing would ever work your way as everybody would just up their power to down out everybody's noise, your tranmission is my noise so I'll just up the power.

Then my transmission is your noise, so you up your power. Until we both make it so nobody can use the spectrum and planes start falling out of the sky. And believe me I can agree with your sentiment. Just not what would result.
