Word on the net is that the new radar threat is POP, and my Bel 985 is too outdated to detect it. I know what the net says are some of the best detectors out there, but I wanted some input from actual users.

The price needs to be below $200. I can't afford a ~$300 Bel or Escort.

Recommendations? Anyone been hit by POP and gotten away unscathed?

IIRC, the high end Bel's, including the 985, are software upgradeable. Have you called Bel to ask them. IMO, the 985 is one of the best out there, and I have a 970 LR myself. I chose the 970 over the 985 because I didn't need the digital voice safety alerts, and the 970 had better K band sensitivity which is all that is used in my area. Both the 985 and 970 are software upgradeable...

I had teh Cobra 9700.. too many false alerts.. in POP mode. Otherwise its accurate as heck.

But that bugged me plus i didnt have teh expenible cash so i returned it and went back to my 6yr old cobra 9200. Its under 200 for it. It works awesome when POP isnt turned on. They may have fixed the POP bug by now.

picked up the PNI silver bullet from costco about a year ago, pretty damn good, and got great reviews. It was only $80 (half price) at costco too!
