radar detector is actually useful

Hey - radar spelled backwards is still radar

radar detector actually saved my sorry ass just now. Was coming home at about 85ish, I crest over the top of the hill and my radar detector starts going nuts for K/Ka band. Immediately I let off the gas and then after I see a CHP bike. The cop sees I've spotted him and then throttles off. Radar detector now picks him up for the next 1/2 mile or so. Hiding on the downside of a hill reduces the range on this detector apparently.

I'm thinking about buying something expensive now, I think maybe an escort solo s2. As for the guys asking for a cheap recommendation, supposedly Bels dominate this arena.

I have a friend who bought a 8500, got a ticket the first he got it and 2 more times after that. I know a few other with the V1 never got a ticket with it, 360 degrees rules all.

How many tickets a person gets is a terrible and misleading way to measure a radar detector's effectiveness.

The high end Bel's have better sensitivity than both those models. The V1 is out of date. overrated, and over-priced. Wow...360 degrees??? Like most other high end radar detectors???

It's the best of that ~100 dollar round up. V1 whores hate that site cause it bashes on the V1. Disregarding that particular controversy, I think the site is pretty good.

I just read that site an hour ago and am convinced that maybe the BEL 910 is the one I need since I can't afford a Valentine One. The site rates all the detectors heavily on features and Valentine is somehow lack in that area.

Anyone has the BEL 910 and swears by it??

I have a Bel 890, which is a pretty effective radar detector at a (more) reasonable price. I think it's great, and don't plan on replacing it unless it breaks for some reason. I usually keep it on "city" mode, which keeps the alarm off for low levels of X-band, so I don't get bugged by automatic doors every time I pass by a truck stop or small town. Like a lot of people have said, it's good as long as you don't rely on it completely, and stay alert of our surroundings. Having a CB radio comes in handy too.
