performance...overclocking??

Noone says anything about theses cards, but i see the at about 66 for the radeon at decent stores and 63 for the MX440

This is NOT the radeon pro, but i rember reading a article at a chinese site(atually jus looked at the charts) the MX440's bars looked longer...image quality too...the rad 9000 is made by sapphire right??

Anyone got opinions...i know ya do..

 Well it's difficult to know for sure but I would bet the Rad9000 would be about 20% slower at stock speeds. However it should o/c extremely well, although this will vary with manu of the card depending mostly on whether it has active cooling (a fan) and what type of RAM it uses (4.0ns etc).

;) Anyway, although the GF4MX440 o/c to about MX460 levels it will never have DX8 hw support like the Rad9000 does. I'd definitely go with the Rad9000 over any GF4MX card, although it is worth paying the extra for a 128MB Rad8500/LE or Rad9000PRO.

:D Here's some benchmarks of the Rad9000PRO, I'd expect the Rad9000 to be about 20% slower but should reach Rad9000PRO levels with active cooling and semi-decent RAM.

From what I've seen the GF4 MX440 is roughly 8-10% faster in most current games, but I'd take the typical R9000 nonetheless.
Full DX8.1 compliancy will lead to much better longevity, and as pixel/vertex shaders become more commonly used the R9000 will catch up to and surpass the GF4 MX.

Add that to the superior TV-Out and slightly better DVD/2D visual quality seems preferable.

From what I've seen the MX440 typically overclocks to reasonably close to the MX460, while the R9000 reach stock R9000 Pro speeds most of the time.

If you don't expect to use the card for very long, and gaming performance is the primary factor then I'd lean towards the MX440... otherwise an R9000 is a much safer choice IMHO.

That's odd, Rand.... most of the reviews I've seen out there put the Radeon 9000 Pro quite a bit AHEAD of the GF4MX-440. The 460 beats it in some circumstances, however.

All in all, with the exception of FSAA, the Radeon 9000 is the more capable unit. Speed is similar but offers more graphic enhancements for the same money.

I was referring to the R9000, not R9000 Pro as the original poster referenced "Rad 9000 normal". As you said, the Radeon 9000 Pro is certainly a higher performance part then the GF4 MX440 in most cases.

I have access to a few budget video cards eg GF3 Ti200, GF4 MX440 and a Radeon 9000. The Radeon 9000 has much faster DX8.1 features like pixel shaders and vertex shaders than even the GF3 Ti200. However when it comes to games both of the Nvidia cards are faster than the Radeon 9000.
So far the only bit of software I've found which the Radeon 9000 is faster than a GF4 MX440 is 3DMARK2001SE.

Even a new game like UT2003 is faster on the GF4 MX440 than on the Radeon 9000, it doesn't look as good but it's faster.
