rack mount server mobo question

I'm not real familiar with rack mount stuff, but are the mobo's in rack mount servers a normal atx size? A local company is having a bankruptcy auction in the morning and one of the things I saw is a rack mount server, I know a 1u is the real low profile one and this isn't that. It's about 5-6 inches high. If I got it would I be able to move it over to a tower case? Thanks.

Urm - not really / or rather - I wouldn't recommend it.

Generally not so much a good idea to rip Server stuff out of the cases it was designed to be used in. The board may be a special form factor that may not even fit into your case - you would need to find out what board it is & check on its technical specs what its form factor is.

Either way, I would generally recommend to use server boards in server-chassis. If you want to stick to ATX and ATX-chassis, use a workstation.

But that's just me.

As a general rule of thumb, server-boards outside of their chassis is generally a bad idea, IMHO.

Anyway - hope this helps a little 🙂.
