Some of my gadgets, like moms media streamer, dont allow typing in the name. It has to be broadcast. Can still work with WEP or WPA, but no anonymous names.

I guess I am a bigot because I find this story disturbing. Or maybe it is the fact that I don't think the government should function as a nanny telling us to "play nice". I would almost certainly guarantee that incarcerating the person who put in the offending SSID would return to society even more hate-filled and bigoted.

The thing "all us bigots" realize is a somewhat self-regulating society is possible. Putting every person in jail which has prejudices (everyone does) seen as extreme in their society is not the solution.

Besides, isn't living in New Jersey only a few shades from being in prison anyways?

It doesn't really matter these days, a lot of modified clients reveal hidden ssids now, and I think even some manufacture specific software does too (IIRC one of Dell's wireless management bloatware tools will reveal hidden SSID's)

I wonder how many people tried to connect to it over and over.

This idea, it is good. Using MAC filtering be a pain for some people, but I only have two wifi devices that use my network regularly.
