Racist comment or not.

I asked this same class before about the racist comment.

So my teacher asked us why do we think that so many more people are angry about Eminem's words being anti gay and anti women who black rap artist have been saying anti gay and anti women things in their song for a long time now and no one cars. A white girl said, "Because we expect black people to do things like this, we expect better of white people." What do you think? I think it was racist. Again, the teacher just brushed her comment aside like he did with the other student comment let time.

She is stating what she believes to be the pervasive attitude. That's not a racist statement. For example, if someone asks why there were so few black QBs in football until about a decade ago, I could say "because people believe they have inferior intellect and cannot handle the thinking part of the game". My statement would not be racist, it would be the people who actually held that belief that would be racist. Similarly, people who "expect better" from a white person but not from a black person hold racist beliefs, but her comment in and of itself is not racist.

Yeah it sounds racist, but if we let Marshal Mathers speak his mind freely, we shall let her. Let her sound like an @$$ without impedement.

She used the term we instead of they or people, insinuating she holds those same views.

She could have been using we in the general sense. We meaning society/white people in general. I'm not saying she doesn't hold the same views, but it's not necessarily true that she does. As to whether or not her comment was racist, definitely not. The fact is, a lot of (ignorant) people still believe that black people are inferior to white people. And a lot of people do "expect better" (as tagej mentioned) from white people. She was pointing out that fact. She wasn't necessarily endorsing it, only pointing it out.

That may or may not be a racist statement.. It is a statement about racism. Maybe "we" do expect better from white people, which is racism.

It has nothing to do with consciously believing that blacks are inferior. That kind of racism is gone, but that depends on who you ask. Covert racism.. and subconsciously feeling that blacks are inferior is pervasive.
