Racism...

only on ATOT will you be labeled a racist for calling a white person white or a black person black.

Here is the deal again...since no one is getting it out of trying to push so hard at this.

Let me break it down *again*.

Saying "my black friend" when talking about a friend that is not present vs "that black guy over there" are two different things.

Once you say something like the former, you have now put a value on what 'black' means (and it becomes more than just color, since your friend is not present and the color of him has no bearing)...

Now this doesn't mean one hates that race, it just means that one separates races.

People can argue this all they want...it's been proven time and time again and why the big push by those in the field to stop using color as a label in situations it doesn't matter.

Even praising terms like "he is black so he naturally has rhythm" also opens the door to color somehow changes the make up of a person.

That's a stereotype, not racism.

Hmm, just an FYI...stereotyping based on race is being racist which leads itself to racism.

Saying 20 year old girls all like Beiber is a non-racist stereotype.

Saying 20 year old black girls all like Lil Wayne is a very racist stereotype.

What if I said that 20 year old black girls all like Beiber?

Is this racist? I think the people that say Black/Hispanic/Asian/[Insert race here] are the same as anybody else. I think that we are different but equal. To say "A Black man is the same is a White man" is stupid IMO.

You are all of what 14 or 15 right?

Outside of the color of his skin, how is a black man inherently different than a white man?

Assume each was born at the same time and adopted by say a Native American family. Outside of color, how would they not be the same?

I am not going to read this whole thread, but it reminded me of my black friend ripping on me for eating the shit out of mayonnaise.

There are stereotypes for each race, and they actually exist because they have a kernel of truth. That being said, a stereotype is not racism by itself, and how you react to said stereotype really defines if you are a racist or not.

lolwut? You going on the record stating racial stereotypes are true?

What I meant was that there are several differences between Black people and White people. I am not (and did not) saying that either race is better. You can not deny that there will always be differences between two races in any comparison. Hell, even if a White child and a Black child were raised by the same parents what makes you think that they would be the same other than the physical differences? Have you ever met two siblings that are exactly the same? Even identical twins have different personalities.

Racism is an aspect of pride that reaches to the level of arrogance. It has no basis in reality, only in the imagination of insecure, and yet self-loving, fools.

I grew up in Brooklyn, in a neighborhood called Cobble Hill. My elementary and middle schools were extremely diverse, and I had friends throughout high school, college, and now at work of nearly every race and religion. One thing I've seen and known to be true is that people are people.

A human being is a human being, for good and bad. No superior or inferior "race", we're all just different and yet undeniably the same. It's the same throughout history. It takes a special kind of willing ignorance and foolishness to say once race is superior to another, or to hate people because of their physical state.

You are now changing the argument.

I stated what makes a black man different than a white man other than color.

Now you are saying no two men are the same.

So are you also saying you can tell a black man even if he was white?

I disagree with that 100%, but neither of us will change our minds, so I'm not even going to bother. 🙂

Well, I have no doubts you would disagree, but you are the one wrong.

There is a reason police can stereotype on certain levels as long as race is not a criteria.

I think this is in part what Alkemyst is saying:

http://xkcd.com/385/

Here's 3 statements:

1. "...the robbery suspect is a black male, mid-twenties, 185 lbs, tattoo on arm..."

2. "The mexican janitor at work is so lazy..."

3. "That asian driver next to me sucks..."

Statement 1 is not racist; it is a description of a person. Statements 2-3 are racist because race has no bearing on work ethic or driving behavior, and is only mentioned because that's the stereotype. Race wouldn't be mentioned in statements 2-3 if they were white.

Cobble Hill, really. You want to go on record with the demographics for us on that?

exactly. For a physical description using race is fine, especially when looking for a criminal whether they are white, indian, black, etc...

And even if the comment is a good one, it's still racist like "oh he's black so he's good at sports" or "she's asian so she's excellent at math".

Racist comments are what leads to racism.

True racism (believing one race is superior to others) is pretty stupid.
However, stereotypes based on racial and socioeconomic basis can be beneficial.

Does hating the "hip-hop" culture make me racist or just a bigot?

What about hating white trash?

Or that I despise low life leeches that that suck from the government teat regardless of race? Or organized religion? Yet I vote Republican...

I'm confused.

Anyway, I believe everyone is bigoted in some manner.

Well if you think the "hip-hop" culture is black only then yes on both counts.

Well hating white trash but not black or asian or other racial 'trash', then yes. However, as a caveat to that most will say something like "oh look at those N*****rs". When everyone is suddenly quiet they will throw in something like "oh, i'd hate them too if they were white trash!"...doesn't usually fly as believable though.

Your last political statement is a bit obtuse.

Society is such bullshit. Why is it that I get called names if I act black, but my Asian friend doesn't get any shit at all when he talks like a normal person instead of sounding like he just come here on a boat? It's totally a double standard against white people.
