<<Fawk all of them whites in SA. They deserve it.[in reference to white farmers being slaughtered by black guerillas] Africa will only change for the better when people like me (I'm african-american) take over that place. They need people that really understand how the world works.>>

<<Fawk all those white bastards there. They deserve to die if they're going to take lands that belongs to natives. FAWK THEM. Africa is for Africans.>>

Simply pathetic.

Well, speaking as a southern gentleman, as far as i am concerned, there is only one race on this earth, and that is the HUMAN RACE. This HUMAN RACE is made up of many colors, nationalalities, cultures, and religions. Once we all learn this, this world will be a better place.

Nutdotnet,

that's because there's no other rational way of expressing the idea :)

I too agree.

It is thinking of this sort that inhibites forward progress for humans as a whole. If we ever hope to reach the stars, we must first put our superficial, religious, and cultural differences behind us.

I by no means wish to make light of the imperialist tendencies of the past 300 years, but after a point the name calling, finger pointing and retribution should end.

I'll admit that I struggle with some pretty serious prejudices, based mostly on my recent interractions with people of other ethnic groups, but I am trying to overcome them.

It's comments like the ones I quoted that really make me sick. I won't pretend to know what it is like to walk in another's shoes, but attitudes like that are nothing but counter-productive. When are people going to realize that for us to acheive true racial harmony, all of us need to work together? What happened in the past is just that: the past. Keeping alive old grudges is, IMAO, one of the greatest barriers to equality we are now facing. Has the world learned nothing from the horrible ethnic conflicts in the Balkan states?

I personally believe that someday this country will witness true racial harmony, and I'm still holding out hope that it will happen in my lifetime. It's the attitude behind those quotes, and the attitude I unfortunately witness in my neighborhood every day, though, that makes me wonder if it's even worth the effort. :disgust: I'll be the first to state that I am not perfect, but I can't help but wonder if we've made any progress when the value of human life is still based on the color of one's skin.

Along these lines i think terms like 'rice' should also be avoided. For example

too many asians on this board.

This is from some fool that started off throwing terms like 'rice boys' and eventually showed his real colours. Now i know a lot of you think this term is funny, but if you look around the web you will find that there are a lot of Asians that are offended by it. If a large number of people take offence to the term, why do we need to use it?

reitz,

like I pointed out in the SA thread, when we lose hope in the goodness people have and stop believing in the beauty of our dreams - then we let ourselves become poisoned by the negativity and pettiness that we are trying to overcome. This must never happen. If even one person comes to the realization you and I have, then it is worth it because that one person will show others through example the full extent of this idea. Change is never fast but rather grinds slowly at ignorance until the wheels wear out leaving nothing but knowledge.

Progress has been made, let me assure you of that. Never lose hope my friend :)

you know what, you will be a lot more likely to be racist if your homeland is invaded and controlled by someone else.

ask the palestinians in the middle east if they believe that israelis are part of the "human race" together with them.

americans tend to have trouble understanding this seeing how they were the ones that stole the land from native americans, instead of being the ones who had their land stolen from them.

I completely agree but at some point, they will realize that they are just killing each other's families until each wants revenge and vengeance. It's the exact same principle as the one behind a vendetta or feud. Each is convinced that the other is wrong so they must kill each other to retaliate for the others' actions. And that is the vicious circle. It is very hard to break.

and modern americans are so pluralistic since many immigrated during the 20th century that to them, the past history has little influence. They blended with the existing culture and thus use that as their identification. And the capitalistic need for immediate gratification often makes people forget other important issues.

You are right though, it does make it hard.
