There have been a few posts in a few threads that got me thinking again. In this instance it was about African-Americans and how they have less opportunity because of their past....
In most Colleges that I've looked at, an AFrican-American with lower grades and lower scores has a better chance to get into a College than a Caucasian american. This is because they want to let a certain number of different minorities into the schools, so they knock out the common guys to make room for less-qualified minorities.
To top that off, they offer even more scholarships and grants to minorities than they do to Caucasians.
My dad didnt go to college, my mother didnt, none of my grandparents did..... Im the first.. Guess what? They don't make much money either... this meant that for me to get an education and a degree I had to work my ASS off. I worked 40hrs a week and took a full semester load at college almost every year I was there (16-20 credits). I received a few scholarships for my High school grades, but my parents weren't in a position to help me.
I say this not to be given an ATTA boy! or a pa on the back. My point is that with hard work obstacles can be overcome, and most minorities have an upper hand on poor white people.....
