Racing movies...Le Mans?? Is it any good??

My mom sells a boatload of DVD's on Half.com and she went to the pawn shop today (excellent place to get used AND new DVD's for $5 a piece) and picked me up Le Mans with Steve McQueen (1971) since she knows that I love cars.

So did she make a good selection? I've heard from some people that this is like the ultimate car movie.
 
I saw it when I was really little. I don't remember much.

But hey, in the 70's they didn't need special effects to show an auto race, so it shouldn't be that cheesy just to watch the cars go in circles (think Dr. Strangelove B-52 flights for really bad sfx. BTW, I love the movie, I just laugh seeing the plane fly.)
 
As the review states. Le Man's production hurt McQueen financially, he really put his heart into it. I got it on VHS and would play it just for the sound.

McQueen desert raced Triumph twins in the 60's under a ghost name. With the risk
involved the studio he was under contract to would have made him stop. He was
a racer at heart. Just as Newman was respected by fellow racers, so was Steve....

OMG, this movie friggin' OWNZ!! I am in awe at the cars and the drivers and the wet driving antics 😀
