I know "the line" generally refers to the quickest route around a track, but I heard somewhere that the "racing line" wasn't the same thing as a "qualifying line".

?

when they qualify, they are the only car on the track?

when they race, the track has all the cars and they are drafting and all that?

i have no idea, i think they have to turn left

What's a qualifying line? Can't say I've ever heard of it.

Maybe it just means the quickest route while qualifying? What I mean is that usually in qualifying they're going full out, while in a race, a lot of times they're being conservative, or maybe its talking about the presence/absence of traffic when qualifying versus racing?

If someone is racing you hard trying to get past you, you might run a tighter line entering the corners to make it hard for them to get under you. In qualifying that worry isn't there, so you use all the race track you need. That's the main difference.

The difference is the qualifying line you only have to do 1 lap on, so if the entry to the next turn is comprimized then it doesn't matter. Also, the exit of the previous turn only cares about exit speed. A racing line is one you have to maintain. A racing line might be a comprimize of saving on tire wear, fuel, passing opportunities and the like. Qualifying all you gotta do is get a one off time.

No problem. :D BTW, I actually do speak from experience on this, I wheel this around race tracks on many Saturday nights.
