Her stalling, her bumping matsura, her causing a wreck and tearing off her wing, and then surviving ALL that to make it back up to first. There wasn't any other driver in that race that i saw that was fighting for the victory as much as she was. Although they did focus primarily on her, it was clear it was for good reason, she made the race this year worth watching, even though we never got to see any boobage like we all hoped :p

and how cool would that have been...danica wins the race...strips down to a bikini...and starts posing a-la Paris Hilton on her racecar drenching herself in milk....oooooooo....yyyyeaaaaaahhhhh

You had me agreeing with you 100% up to the last comment...

edit: I guess my point on this is they should have just renamed it the Danica Patrick 500. The race obviously wasn't about Indianapolis, it wasn't about the other drivers, it wasn't about the cars and it certainly wasn't about the winner. The whole point of this race was to show off the cute little driver they gained and look how close to the big boys she can run.[/quote]

Exactly the way I feel too. She wasn't the only one in the race but it seemed like she was the only one there.

Yes, god forbid they do anything to make the race interesting...

You're right...they should have focused more on all the foreigners born guys who qualified in the top 5, set fast times throughout qualifying, led the race and made history today.

Edit-Imagine, she could do for American open wheel racing what Tiger Woods did for Golf. Gee, that would suck wouldn't it?

If she does it for IRL and not CART, then it is indeed a tragedy.

The quality is with CART. Both cars and drivers. I have had very little interest in the Indy 500 since that bastard Tony George went and threw his little temper tantrum because it was too hard for him to race on a real track (read: a road circuit) and because his talent wasn't up to the task of driving the more complex and demanding Champ cars.

By splitting the series he effectively stifled any hope America had of creating a series that was competitive with Formula 1 and set the entire field of American open-wheel racing back several years.

As far as Danica making the race entertaining, remember that an entertaining driver is not always (nor even often) a driver who is driving well. Entertaining for the fans is one thing, safe for everyone else on the track and not relying on luck is quite another. Danica used up a lot of luck today. Let's hope that she doesn't need it in the future.

She did pretty damn well for rookie. I don't know of too many rookies in the Indy 500 that can go from the front of the lead lap, to the back of the lead lap, and back to the front again to challenge for the win. Would have been very interesting if she wasn't running out of fuel at the end. :D

While I do agree with you regarding IRL and Tony George, CART has been on a downward spiral for the past 5 or so years. I don't know that there's any way to save that series at this point.

I was disappointed to see the accident she caused under caution but it could have just been a matter of "checking up" like some others said. I thought she showed a very competitive nature and she was aggressive in her driving. She also handled the media well with some of their inane questions.

A real racing primer:

NASCAR: "Turn left Bubba!"

F1: "Turn left Luigi!"

IRL/CART: "Turn left Danica!!"

agressive driving by rookie = wreck. It was a shame that her and her crew just shrugged it off as "oh well, that happens"

CART screwed up big time in the last few years. The fiasco at DFW racetrack (cancel at the very last minute), cancel race in Houston (one of the few tracks that CART was popular), fought with Honda and Toyota and lose them to Indy, and on and on. Hopefully, the new CART leader will guide it back to its former glory but I doubt it.

I go to Long Beach every year. It is really one of the few CART races I actually follow. I'm an F1 fan! :D

What would you propose she and the crew do? Pull her out of the race? The stewards didn't see any reason to penalize her so I don't see what the problem is. Plenty of rookies make mistakes like this. It happens all the time, it's part of racing.

You nailed it! Tony George was the crybaby that started all of this controversy. Still dislike the jerk. Really PO'ed me when he got the F1 race, but like follows like and I do not have that high of an opinion about Bernie either. Have to grease the bast@*d's palm with more than $1million just to talk about a F1 race.
