I know people that pronounced it like "Fobe" rhymes with "Lobe."

I agree with pyonir, fob doesn't just apply to asian immigrants but to ANY immigrant. In upstate NY fob is used as a slur against italians. I've heard it in reference to latin american immigrants also.

Ya, may also be correct. I just know it was an Asian term because I'm asian. But sure, I'm pretty sure it could apply to any heritage and custom :)

Fob tended to be used where I live (NorCal) for Vietnamese people because as you know, most Vietnamese people who came here were "boat people."

My high school is like 60% asian so I here all this stuff all the time. It is sorta offensive, but it depends on the context. A worse thing to say would be like ch1nk or something. I don't get why asians are always associated with the word fob all the time though. WTF ...why is ch1nk banned by atot?

I'm sure the italians who landed here in the USA on boats felt the same way... And the cubans...

beloved patriot is apparantly the derogoratory word for Chinese people, much like how the N word is for Afican Americans.

edit: If it IS banned.. how was I just able to type it?

Its funny, my haircut use to be a bowl so when I was in elementary/jhs some kids called me a fob. Then I told them in fluent english to "fvck off" and now I've been friends with them even now.

<- Am no true FOB

I think ABCD tops the list & you just don't have it.
ABCD: American Born Confused Desi for those who don't know it.

I don't think is ABCD is offensive. Kinda funny though.

FOBs are NOT necessarily from an Asian country (aka Fresh off the Boat) but is rather one who follows Eastern cultures and values. These cultures include always paying for your girl at meals, movies ANYTHING, taking cute pictures with your fingers in a V, talking in loud Chinese (or whatever) and listening to Asian music. Also known to wear very... outward colours, orange, yellow, pinks, greens and reds are very common.

FOBs and CBCs are hard to mix. My girl is FOB and I'm CBC, so we each pick up values from the other culture (much like how if like an Indian person and a Polish person got together). FOBs and CBCs usually share nothing in common except their skin colour and the fact that almost all Asians drive rice (Toyotas, Hondas) and the more well off Asians will drive Lexus, BMWs and the like.

Most FOBs are usually rich, having Mommy and Daddy making money in Hong Kong or Japan and wiring money over to the kids here. I've seen 19 year olds with $10,000 from their parents MONTHLY and blowing it on GOD knows what... they drive BMWs and own their own houses... quite ridiculous and unfair, but that's life.

You must live in a rich neighborhood because there a a LOT of FOB's working as waitstaff in Chinatown around here.

I dont think so either. But my cousin sister was upsetwhen I referred to her son (my dear lil nephew!) as ABCD. So just to be considerate towards her ilk, I stopped using the term to a great extent :)

ABCD

Every parent is going to be upset if you refer their kid as confused. lol. I have never tried refering my cousins/nephews with that term. Dunno what their parents reaction would be.

:D funny though
