1. On my way back from final four in 2003.
2. 2 asians and a black man in the jeep from NY
3. Following my buddy through mississippi
4. cop starts tailing me and pulls me over
5. pulls us out of car and asked us questions in the rain...
6. then asks "is the black fella from jamiaca?"
7. lets us off with warning...I was following my buddy to closely (tailgating)

People see a black guy with dreads, and they think Jamiacan. Simple as that.

He then might equate all Jamiacans as pot smokers thanks to you-know-who.

Absolutely racial profiling. Tailgating in the rain had nothing to do with it.

I'm sure them having out-of-state plates had nothing to do with it either (assuming they did because of the NY reference).

I really doubt in the dark and rain he saw your buddy's dreads, but he did see out-of-state plates on two different cars driving very close together, and probably was suspicious.

no state is going to actually admit they do it, but they do it to save themselves time and effort since it gives them the most chance of catching criminals (can't ignore statistics if that's what you do for a living). This is not to say they pull over blacks exclusively.

what the fudge are three non whites doing in mississipi anyhow? They don't take kindly to people with pigment in their skin in those parts.

A lot has changed since 2003, mississippi is a really progressive state now.

The cop was probably trying to score some ganja, and then when the guy wasn't Jamaican he wrote them a ticket to get back at them for wasting his time.

So a cop pulls you over for breaking the law which you admit to doing and you drum it up to racial profiling?

no no thats what he said...I was a normal 4-5 car lengths behind....when he switched lanes...i switched lanes... and it was around noon and we had final four stuff on our car... cause we were national champs

Sure they don't.
From the 2000 Census
White persons, percent, 2000 (a)
Miss. 61.4%
USA 75.1%
Black or African American persons, percent, 2000 (a)
Miss. 36.3%
USA 12.3%

There are many counties in Mississippi where the majority of the population is african american. Most of the elected officials and law enforcement are also african american in these counties.
