Racial Discrimination at work question

I was working at radio shack, and was let go for various conflicts with my new manager, but the question is he has made numerous remarks saying im only the top seller in the store because most of my custumers are russian and I help them (I also speak russian) he has made these types of comments numerous times if front of the other employees at store meetings, I didnt really like that because its not true, you can look throught all my tickets and see the names of them are not russian names, especially on the bigger tickets. This is one of the conflicts with my manager, so is there anything i can do legally about this?

First off, is your manager of another race? If he isn't then you can't claim racial discrimination. I'm not even sure there's room for nationality discrimination.

Set him straight. What's the worst that can happen...you get fired from Radio Shack?

If he's Black then you might have a case against him. It just depends upon your ability to connect the dots and prove that you were fired based upon this.

Your other option would be suing for harassment . . . if you can prove that he created a hostile work environment and made it uncomfortable for you, then consequently you lost your job or had to quit at some point if you hadn't been fired.

Don't quote me, since I'm not a lawyer! 😛

besides the racial jokes, he always makes jokes about me being younger, i was the youngest person in the store, me and him werent exactly friends so I didnt like him making jokes or making fun of me in front of custumers or other employees. I basically put up with it, untill alot of other stuff happened.

You might be able to sue for racial harassment (a subcategory of racial discrimination). He created a hostile environment is what you seem to be saying.

However, you seem to be saying he didn't fire you for this, he was joking, etc. So why the question? You have no case against him then.

Go get free legal advice if you're serious about this matter.

that could be the reason he started conflicts with me to get me fired... Its not like people say your fired because your russian. I got fired for a different conflict between me and him which could not be resolved.

Well, why don't you stop being so cryptic and just tell us what happened if you want some advice? 🙂

Enough with the mystery, what happened between you two that couldn't be resolved and ended in your firing?

I'd like to hear from the lawyer that told you this as it is completely false. It is very possible to have a black manager that hires only whites and discriminates against other blacks.

ok.. a few weeks ago I had a custumer in my store for a very long time, he was being a pain and wuodnt leave, we started talking about digital camaras, i told him one of the camaras was going on clearace for 79$ the next day (it was 189$ that day) so he said id love to buy it, and i said ok come back tommorow ill put it aside for u since its our last one also the display model. He said any way u can give it to me today for that price? i said let me give my manager a call and see what he says, so i called him, my manager said yea sure. so I said ok to the custumer, and the custumer said can u get me anymore? I looked around a few other stores had them as there display ones, so the custumer said can you get me 2 more for my kids? I said sure, so I called my manager and asked him if i should sell them in store, or just have the custumer pick them up. he said sell them here, I said are u sure? ur lossing alot of money. he said yea whatever. So I sold them out of our store. and had the custumer pick them up. Since all the camaras were display models I had to give him a "premimum warrenty" on each one, since were supposed to do that on anything open. Cusomer left the store happy, manager came in later that night, realized how much money he lost and flipped out on me, i said but u told me its fine! the he also noticed the preimum warrenty on everything and he told me to get out of the store. I coudnt get in touch with the disctict manager since she was on vacation. after getting in touch with her, she looked into it and said i was let go, since its basically a "he said, she said situation" and she cant figure anything out. And she said one of the papers I signed when i was hired said that neither myself or the manager is authorized to make any type of price change. I was not aware of this policy, and if this is the case, the manager had to right to authorize the price change and none of this would have happened.

Yeah, you seemed to have been fired for other reasons, but you should probably let the district manager know what kind of bonehead they have running one of their stores.

but there was discrimination againts me while the manager was around, which should have never happened in the 1st place.

Yes, but you would never win a case/lawsuit as the situation you described above would be the reason they would give in court for terminating you.

If you thought you were being discriminated against earlier, that would have been the time to raise the issue.

that is why i dont want to let this go, he is the worst manager i have ever seen, in the month that he has worked in my store he has called the cops 5 times on custumers, because alot of times he starts arguments with them. He also called the cops on an employee from a different store. the previous manager has never called the cops on a custumer, besides a few thefts (thats in a 6 month time period). This manager left the store door open durring a saterday morning meeting, a few custumers came in and he flipped out on them for comming in because were closed (yet he refused to lock the door). A few times he has given people merchenside and kept the money for himself, later when i asked him what he did with the money he said i kept it, do u have a problem with that? I said no.. (i asked in front of all the other store employees). I believe he has also been stealing money from the cash drawer.. and basically blaming it on me. I have worked in the same store since december of last year, with the previous manager durring his time at our store we made 3$ (cash) over what we were supposed to have in the drawer. With the current manager we are about -200$ in a month.

You're being a d!ck. You got fired for what seems like a bad reason, but it wasn't because of your race. Don't try to make something out of nothing just because you're pissed - if you do, then you're no better than the dumbasses that sue because they spill coffee on themselves.
