Greetings to all from all of us over in the Distributed Computing forum! :)

I'd like to take a quick moment to deliver a message on behalf the TeAm AnandTech crunchers.

A new distributed computing project has recently gotten under way, and that project is called Correlizer. It uses the computing power of PCs around the world to research genome organization.

TeAm AnandTech (TA) has recently engaged SETI.Germany (SG) in a friendly "race" to see who will end up in the #1 spot by Nov 16th. SG has been #1 for a while now, and while TA was in 5th place not too long ago, we have since leap-frogged over 4th and 3rd places to take over the #2 spot. Unfortunately, SG has taken notice and stepped up production accordingly. The last time i checked the stats, our average production was higher than theirs, however the difference in output is not enough to eclipse them by the race deadline.

I don't know exactly how long its been since TA has held the #1 spot in project production, but suffice it to say its been a long time. At long last we have the chance to hold the title once again. But we need all the help we can get from AnandTech forum members and enthusiasts alike. You may be wondering why we're asking for help in the VC&G forum when this project only uses CPU's, not GPU's...well, we know that there's a good chance that those of you who are gaming and general video/graphics enthusiasts probably have equally powerful CPUs to back up your GPUs.

And so we cordially invite you to join TeAm AnandTech in our effort to beat SETI.Germany to the #1 spot for Correlizer production by Nov 16th. When prompted which project to join please enter this URL - http://svahesrv2.bioquant.uni-heidelberg.de/correlizer/

While i'm sure many of you are quite busy putting those GPUs to work (and consequently using a good deal of CPU power in the process), we'd like you to consider using your spare CPU cycles for a short period of time to help TA reach the #1 spot before the race deadline, and more importantly, donate CPU time to the advancement of biology, genetics, and science in general.

If you have any questions or concerns about either the race or the Correlizer project in general, please see The SETI.Germany vs. TeAm AnandTech race in Correlizer. Please help us! thread in the Distributed Computing Forum. Thanks in advance for taking the time to read this, and for donating your CPUs to science!

This is a very worthwhile project, in fact it's the first project in years that got me to pull computers away from SETI@home. Your gpu isn't any help, however, it is all cpu.

I've been running it for close to a day now, with some 500 tasks completed and have yet to receive a single credit.

I've been wondering when the work would begin to get validated, in fact.

But it does take a while, that much appears to be the norm.

I am running it, but despite finishing a few tasks it says I have 0 credit.

hey there 'sharingan' man...

yeah you will complete WUs but someone else also has to complete that same WU as validation. When those two happen, one is supposed to get credit...it can take some time.

Thanks for helping!

Many of us have highly overclocked systems that mow through WU's like chuck bass through a sorority party. We have to wait for the proletariat to catch up to get credit for each individual WU. It's taken me a week to get to 4200 RAC, though my credit per day is going up rapidly as I get credit for older WU's that have finally "caught up".

No, there is an expiration on WU reporting times. On correlizer it looks like it's about 10 days.

In SETI@home I typically have pending credits of 5-10 days' worth of WU's, though again that's because I run very fast machines and SETI actually sends the same unit out to 3 people. I don't know as much about Correlizer as I'm just running it to support the TeAm, but I don't think that they send WU's out to more than 2 people.

for the record, I've just received my first credits, approximately 24 hours after beginning to crunch.

Yeah, don't get discouraged when it takes a few days for your credits to start showing up. Many BOINC projects have double/triple redundancy, so especially if you have a blazing fast cpu it can take a while for your WU's "twins" to get reported.

Update:

The project servers have been having issues, or are overwhelmed, possibly due to the race.

Nobody is probably able to connect to fetch new or report completed work.
Uppsala posted a message at the correlizer message board asking for an ETA and here is the response:

Update: The Correlizer servers are back to normal!

We're still looking to hit #1 in that project and we are within 150k points.
If you have not lost your crunching mojo yet, please join and help us if you can!

SG is currently semi-dormant and more focused on other projects so we have a good chance of getting there!
