I still think ElFenix is too far ahead to catch. Not that I'm not trying, and maybe, just maybe if I get this system up and running...

c'mon athlon, c'mon athlon. i think if i can get this thing running i might have a shot at taking the gold. as it is, i'm looking at fourth...not good.

btw i just want everyone to know how cool silverback is. despite that fact that we are mortal enemies due to this race, he's actually troubleshooting my new system with me so we can get it up and running. granted, he keeps swinging me over to the most expensive correctional method, but i'm sure he means well... ;) thank you silverback for your contributions to the team as well for your help with my system.

as if i didn't alreay suspect it... i'm in win98 and just to see, i started up seti, and within two seconds the system froze. that's after i ran 3dmark and sandra benchmarks. damn you seti! oh well, crucial ram is only $110! that's for pc133 cas2 ram for an a7v, so as soon as i get paid, i'm grabbing a stick, and then i'll be flying!

Good choice Tetsuo. Thats good stuff.
Your motherboard isn't revision 1.01 is it? If it is, that is the one that was problematic and should be returned, the 1.02 rev is much more stable.
Look by the last PCI slot it's silk screened on the motherboard which rev it is.
Well I added a P3 600 to the herd today, my Laptop... LOL 10 hour WU's. It's that damn speed step P3 that does it.
Hopefully my new LAN case will be up and running soon to.
I spend WAY to much money, I'm sure it's going to catch up with me soon ;)

wait, speed step actually slows down processing of fast mode? are you sure its not the really slow hard drive combined with conservative ram timings?

Silverback, it's rev. 1.02. you can actually tell a really simple way: if your motherboard came with the wire for the temp probe, it's 1.01, and if it's onboard, it's 1.02. speed step is something that extends battery life. if you are plugged into an ac outlet, the system runs at full speed and the screen is at full brightness, but when you run on battery, it steps the cpu down 50-100mhz and dims the screen. you can also disable all the power-saving features on your laptop, but it's going to get awfully hot that way...

i changed the memory settings to user define and set them at 3,3,3 @ 100. i'm about to start seti right now, so we'll see if that made a difference. i think i'm also going to clear the cmos and start all over to see if that makes a difference. keep your fingers crossed.

p3 600 does it in 10 hours on fast mode or is it 10 hours on power saving mode? 10 hours on power saving (500mhz) isn't really bad, still slow, but 600 should go better.
