Race question/comment: Asian is not necessarily Far East

why are only people from the US called Americans? shouldn't everybody from north and south america be called Americans?

In my experience they are. When somebody just says, "Americans", they usually mean the USA, but that is their mistake.

besides, all of us Americans are brothers and sisters anyway.

Technically that is true, but it doesn't work like that outside of the dictionary/Wikipedia. In a casual discussion Europeans, Russians, and other such groups are called whites. Blacks are called African Americans even though white African and Arab Africans exist. Chinese, Japanese, and Koreans are called Asian yet Indians are called Indian. Some people stay consistent but not many.

obviously it's because of the name of the country, the United States of America.

I found that filipinos do not like to be referred to as asians. They refer to themselves as pacific islanders.
