Raccoons in attic

Stupid thing figured out how to get into the part of my roof that covers my front walkway by getting in where two roofs meet. That wasn't a big deal because the raccoon was still technically outside. Now the damn thing has figured out how to get from the walkway to the attic. Probably via the garage (stupid garage has a finished ceiling, so there's probably no wall between the garage and walkway up under the roof.

I NEED TO GET RID OF HER!!!!

She's not getting into my trash or anything, but the running around in the middle of the night is KEEPING ME UP!!!!

Just through a bunch of rat poison up there, or wrap some up in some meat or something.

Or call an exterminator, that always works. Be sure to fix the hole they came from though.

Really? They'll go for that? PERFECT! Except they'll die up there and I'll have to figure out how to get them out. I don't have a high roof. Attic is pretty much inaccessible other than the peaks. I guess I'll have to cut a whole in the ceiling if I figure out where they die.

The raccoon does have to forage for food.

I think pest removal services can take care of the problem without killing it...something like mountain lion scent.

Traps, guns, poison.

Fine, obviously. But how do you pursuade the raccoon OUT so you can trap, shoot, poison???

They loooooooove tuna fish. We catch more racoons in our live trap with open cans of tuna than anything else.

Some rat poison will dry up the rats, but raccoons are a lot bigger. So I dunno. Cus if they do die in there, you'd better get ready, cus I had a mouse die in my wall, and it was freaken hell for a month...

Turn on a light and put a radio up there. She'll get pissed off and leave.

DING DING DING!!!

That was too easy!!!!

I put a few of those halogen work lamps up in the attic and fired up the tunes.

She got PISSED OFF QUICK!

She came out and stood on the roof to find out what the comotion was.

I stood on the roof of my car and threw rocks at her and sprayed her with water. This pissed her off more.

She disappeared for a while and I went inside. I knew she'd be back for the young.

I went back up in the attic to listen for the babies and whilst up there I could hear little paws walking ON THE ROOF.

I went around the back yard and there she was... walking the babies down a ladder I left leaning against the back wall.

The mom and three babies all hauled ass for the woods. WOO HOO!!!

Find the entrance, and use a live trap with tunafish. Once she is trapped, Find the little "coons, and remove them, but wear gloves. They can leave a nasty bite. Take the group to the local nature center and see if they can take her to be released.

Oh, and Jemcam... I know you posted only 5 minutes ago, but I wanted to let you know how well that idea works. I actually thought about it 20 minutes ago, right after my last post. It only took 15 minutes for them to clear out!!! 😀 😀 😀 I'll remember that.

I know the entrance. Where my two roofs meet is where she got in. Now I have to fix the hole so I don't get more guests. 🙁

We used to get racoons in our chimney every so often. What we did was all day blast music towards the chimney and eventually they will leave on their own. I dont remember it taking too long either...Few days to a week. The explanation I got was that they sleep during the day and if they cant they will find somewhere else do go.

No shens.

I know the area well, and there are more my excellent compatriot and possum than you can shake a stick at. And they are VERY comfortable living in our neighborhoods.

They don't set up camp in my yard because I have a terrier who lives to kill small things and a cat who dreams of taking down a squirrel one day.

I would definitely try to get it out alive, no point in harming the Raccoon unless you have to IMO... they are cute critters anyways, too bad they are pests... 🙁

Once you chase them out, moth balls will help keep them from coming back

Really? If that's true, I'll DEFINITELY put a bunch of mothballs in over the covered walkway.
