Raccoons and Garbage problems

I usually just leave my bag of garabage tied up and outside my house. Well without a garbage can, the neighboorhood cats and racoons start scratching away at the bag and leave a mess outside my house.

So, does anybody have any suggestions on how to WARD OFF the racoons or cats. I know getting a garbage can would help but i also want to know any tips on warding off the animals.

Repellents?

Anyway, here's some real advice.

You can just throw paper, metal objects etc in the garbage bag.

All leftovers just throw in the yard! The critters will get it!
