What was your 3Dmark 2005 score? Please post system specs and let me know if the card was running over drive. I'm just wondering because my 9800PRO is @ 425/365 and I wanted to see if I got similar score or not because I've got 128MB less Vram.

i don't know personally but you can check tom's hardware guide and see if 3dmark05 score benchies are out. all i know is that i tested my dad's radeon 9800 pro (328/297 - ?? on the ram) and got a fart score of 1253. i think a 9800xt would be above 2000. but who would dare buy that card?

what would be wrong with buying the Radeon 9800XT? It would be like buying the radeon 9800PRO 256...

yeah, thats without any tweaking of drivers/antivir guard/msn/msantispy/second monitorenabled and ultramon running so i'd probably go a bit higher if i wanted, that was just a quick run to see how 5.6 performed ;)

i have one running strong for well over a year now and it suits my needs perfectly . . . IF i had the regular 9800p, i'd be thinking of UPgrading NOW. . . :p

. . . with the 9800xt being more-or-less-equal in performance to the 6600GT - i still can play ANY fps at "my" resolutions of 10x7 or 11x8 [my 19" CRT's max refresh @85hz] at 'hi' with everything 'on' and 'max' :)

oh, yeah, i got it new fron NewEgg shipped LAST Spring for $223 . . .

so, where did i go wrong?

i get just shy of 3,000 points in 3DMark05 with the old Cats . . . an doing a Win O/S Reinstall this weekend before i try 5.6.

You guys are so clueless when it comes to the 256MB 9800p . . .
:disgust:

ONE example . . . you canNOT turn on all details in Painkiller/BOoH with a 128MB 9800p - you CAN with the 256MB 9800p [which IS a ''true' 9800xt with a BIOS flash (and better cooling)]

i'd say +10% performance over the 128MB version is "worth it" . . . but it's just my opinion

edit: well, i've d/led all the latest drivers and am logging out to reinsatall Win . . . i'll update [dug777] my 3DM'05 score with the latest cats then.

Aloha

20%-30%???

Isnt the NU just about equal to the 6600GT without AA/AF, with the Nu being 5ahead..

And Isnt the XT about equal to the 6600GT exept when you put on aa/af, there it pulls ahread.

XT has 256 mb which could help at high resolutions and with aa/af, and it has DDR2 which I assume also helps.

My reply was an inside joke with Apoppin' our arguments about the 6800NU were legendary.

Bouzouki, if you want to think 9800XTs/6600GTs/6800NUs are all equal, I'm glad for you. We're all entitled to our opinions. ;)

i'm baaack :p

i installed EVERYTHING, ran 3DMark05 and when i tried to connect to the net i got a meltdown with my modem refusing to install its driver . . . SO i started all over - THIS TIME, connecting to the 'net first . . . now i'm half-done with the installation . . .

ANYWAY [phew]. with a clean install of Win2k and Cats 5.6 i got 3,005 'marks' - up from 2950 . . . just "made it". :)

[condensed]

Why? . . . . IF i got a 6800Std, i'd have spent nearly $100 more dollars than my XT and i'd STILL be looking to UPgrade this Fall [as i predicted] - neither card will "cut it" with nextgen games. ;)

i remember it well . . . i still have my opinion that the 6800 wasn't/isn't a significant upgrade over the 9800xt . . .

. . . the ONLY card that i might have bought over a year ago was the 6800gt [for nearly $200 more than my xt] . . . and IT probably won't need to be upgraded for another year to 18 months for new games . . . those with the 6800std are just as "dead in the water" as i am . . . i just "got by" much more cheaply. ;)

i can STILL sell my XT for ~$100 [which will go "toward" my 6800U or a mid-range 7800]
remember, i ain't changing my display' till it dies - still a 19" CRT at 11x8 @ 85hz ;)
[self congratulatory, i know]:p

just a quick note re: my 3,005 3-d-05 points . . . . system as in my computer (P4 2.80c@3.31Ghz/1GP PC3500) . . . 9800xt is at STOCK speeds with Overdrive ''OFF".

i have to force an o/c thru PowerStrip as Overdrive automatically O/C's in "degrees" - depending on the XT's core temp ;)

Apoppin' a significant upgrade over a Bud would be an Old Nick Barley Wine Style Ale. :)

i don't drink alcohol anymore. ;)

:D

i lived in Dublin, Ireland for 3 years . . . i know good beer . . . [draft] Harp Lager used to be my favourite [along with Jameson 10 year whiskey]

The Harp is fine, just don't poison me with a Guinness. LOL- I think they brew the Guinness with the "old sod".

Did you ever drink Guiness Draft in Dublin?

Very different from the crap they export [it doesn't travel well]. ;)

i got very used to draft Guiness Stout . . . but there was even some "variation" from pub to pub in Dublin.

I've never had the pleasure of visiting Dublin, but any Guinness I've had here has made me wince. It just sux. :(

Many, many better choices- I'd rather drink a Zima in a dress at a biker bar than choke down a Guinness- and that wouldn't be pretty. ;)

then you really haven't tasted Guiness . . . just the export CRAP . . . :p
[i AGREE that Guiness available here SUX . . . damn, we agree again]

Ireland brews some of the best beer in the world

Zima!?! :p

i think i tried to drink some . . . it came out before i quit drinking alcohol [and was an "encouragement" for me to to quit]

wow, this is getting pretty far OT

they might toss you out for drinking Zima, though
