I'm looking to buy a R9700 or R9700pro toward the middle of next month (hopefully when prices have tumbled a bit).
It's to go into a Shuttle XPC so I'm quite keen to get one with as quiet a fan as possible. Sadly due to the space restrictions in the shuttle case getting the sapphire 9700 ultimate card (passively cooled) or bolting on one of the Zalman heatsinks isn't an option...at least not without butchering the XPC case which I'm not comfortable about doing.
So does anyone have any thoughts on the card(s) with the quietest fan? Or if I can buy a card, remove the stock fan and put on a different quieter model? (in which case some suggestions as to which fans will fit / cool sufficiently...)
Also....TV out on the R9700(pro), is it any good? My voodoo 3 wasn't that great (but bearable), my gf2 gts seemed to actually be pretty good whereas my current gf4 mx looks atrocious (mainly kinda wavy lines on the screen, hard to explain). Is the ATI tv out any better? I've always heard that the ATI cards are generally pretty top notch for 2d / tv and to be honest it's not going to affect my purchasing decision at all, but as I hope to rely on the machine for watching films more it would be nice to know what I'm getting myself into.
