Worrying about 50 watts on a graphics card when other parts of your system are pulling over 1000+ watts just doesn't make sense lol.....

And 4K BluRays aren't out, what 4K media is out there that is higher quality than a BluRay right now other than raw footatge you shoot yourself.

Fury X Crossfire is something I would be open to in an HTPC if I had the funds easily lol. Really, the whole "I need a tiny HTPC" thing is for people who want their PC to be visible and show it off as a cute cool build. My PC is never shown off to anyone, so how it looks is irrelevant to me. I hide it away, and make sure it's quiet and powerful to drive my graphics.

Yeah the Amp, Preamp, and Power conditioner probably will get me close to 1kwatt only if I'm on full blast. Most the time it's probably setting under 200 watts. I want as little heat back there as possible, heat damages electronics in the long run.
Funds are not a problem. I spend thousands on HT equipment. I have to admit part of it is quality and a huge part of it is I like the way it looks. Can't cheap out on the HTPC and wreck the whole setup with a fugly tower -_-
It's either got to be small and barely noticeable or it has to look really good among it's peer of HT equipment. I've even thought about designing my own tower once =D I might go that route.

All depends on how much space and how creative you want to be. My amps are pro amps and are not pretty home theater amps.
Amps and Avr take up 8u of rack space so add a server and htpc to that and that's 16u of rack space. I think that's my long term plan is to rack everything as it'll look far neater and easier to hide away. Currently no one has ever called my fractal case fugly though. Actually, been complimented many many times on how nice the 2 towers, sub, and htpc look all standing together.

Fury x was nice though because I can fit that in a smaller case and exhaust all heat out of the case.

We'll see how nano is though, I hope it's worth it.

One of my audio buddies walked into my living room one time and said "Holy SH!T this looks like circuit city..."

It was time for a change :(
Girls didn't necessary not like my system, but they did nitpick stuff on it they didn't like. Old laptops(original HTPC lol), uglier cassette players, ugly turntables...

Do I need a server or can I get away with a small NAS?

I can not answer that question reliably. I wish I could I started with 1 1.5tb drive for movie storage when I was with my ex torrenting. Now? I torrent 24/7 and add content as fast as possible and never delete anything. So I'm at 30+ tb? I need another drive by the end of September I think.

If you delete things a small Nas may be overkill. I'm a data hoarder and recording live TV on stop can add even more (I stopped doing this as literally if I have cable, why should I need to record it to watch it? That's ridiculous the Internet is here and I pay a subscription already....).

It's so user dependent lol, I say go big or go home. I'd get a Rosewill 15 Bay server chassis for $90 or so. It's stupid large, but if you have space to hide it away (doesn't need to be in a theater room closet/basement preferred) then definitely get a server chassis.

I don't think the nano is necessary for htpc but in still interested lol. My system bumping music in a closed room for an extended period does get hot after all.

I think a few TB is all I will need for now. I don't plan on hording that much movie or tv show. I'm more concern about network speed. Where I am now, I once killed the entire home network when I copied a 1 gb file from one computer to another via wireless, so I am a tad concern about that. I'm not savy enough in networking to run a home server rack like you, but what additional capability would I gain if I invest in something as such? Would I have a storage device that's more future proof and upgradable? I think I definitely would have the space to hide it, it's the maintenance and setting the beast up I'm not sure if I'm up to the task.

But in terms of a HTPC, if it's only for watching videos, many small form factor video cards will do. But I want to have something that can game(hopefully in 4k since that's the bare min for my next tv) and have the potential to drive a future VR set. The premium for the price for me at least I can justify for now. 10K for audio gear so far, I could probably spend at least 1/2 of that on video(price includes tv). I've invested so much on the audio rack..yeah maybe I'm going overboard but I really don't want to risk too much more heat back there shortening any equipment life.
What's killing me is the lack of HDMI 2.0. Then again, Fury has freesync...and there are no freakin TV out there that can take advantage of it....sseessshh guess you just can't have it all...which sucks.

42 inch freesync DP model review
http://www.pcper.com/reviews/General-Tech/Wasabi-Mango-UHD420-42-4K-FreeSync-and-HDMI-20-800

65 inch model incoming
http://hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1870504

55 inch model out
http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_fro...TR0.TRC0.H0.Xuhd550.TRS0&_nkw=uhd550&_sacat=0
$1000-2000 depending on the seller.

Also sold on Amazon and Newegg.

Turn down a setting or two and you could freesync game if you're willing to buy the monitor from amazon/newegg/ebay. Worked for PcPer =/ I plan on trying when the 65 inch model is out. Probably will wait for the initial batch to get sold so probably December I'm looking at to actually buy the UHD650. Will probably get a card first.

I'm sure you're as happy as I was when I found out like 2 weeks ago lol.

Lol, yeah this seriously solves EVERYTHING. I'm a little shell shock how little this is costing. It's been a couple of years since I've walked into bestbuy and looked at a 4k TV. I was under the impression they be 4-5K at least. I didn't expect them to drop this much in price so quickly.
Does all the Wasabi on that ebay page support freesync? If that 65" monster support freesync it's definitely worth waiting for  at under $1400
