So does this mean that the ram will be shared now? That would be pretty awesome if getting a 2nd card doubled your video ram.

Is there really no performance penalty in PCI-e vs going through the external connector?

According to AMD there is far more bandwidth in the PCI-E channel than their CF connector, which could be saturated in some cases, which could cause hitching and such.

Its just sending finished frames. I mean, how much bandwidth can that take. Its not even gonna use 1x of the PCIe x16 interface.

Bandwidth increases with resolution. This is likely in preparation of 4K coming, and as a show of how impressive it is they did a demo of 3 4K monitors in Eyefinity.

I'm just surprised PCIe latency is low enough to cut the bridge connection. Is this only true for PCIe 3.0 or is 2.0 latency low enough as well?

Ah okay, I thought they originally went to external connectors because the PCI-e bus didn't have the necessary bandwidth.

2x DVI connectors will help the Catleap crowd. My pet peeve with AMD was all the mini-DP connectors they had.

IMO, AMD was pushing DisplayPort for 2 main reasons - resolution support and it is cheaper to implement. As with a lot of new outputs though that came at the cost of expensive adapters for people without DP monitors.

It would have to require less bandwidth than PCIe 2 is capable of, since, AMD doesn't even have a PCIe 3.x capable chipset yet.
