R9 290x availability

Basically it is unavailable were I live (europe). The most common online shop had exactly 1 in stock after launch and since then nothing not even a due date. Even 280x availability is pretty limited.

Is this also an issue in US? Or for anyone else in europe?

A 780 starts to look more attractive by the day. only thing holding me back is mantle (for bf4) and way better mining on GCN...

Ya 290x is pretty hard to find in stock it seems, though 280x are more abundant.

It's smarter to wait for the AIB versions with better coolers.

Does anyone know if you can do 3x 290x?

Yes.

And I would suspect so, but not certain, AMD hasn't update their crossfire compatibility chart for the r9 and r7 releases. This is problematic for me, as I am curious about 7950+280x crossfire.

Yeah, I'm also interested in a 290/290X (obviously the 290 isn't out yet). No luck finding either in the US for myself so far. I know the AIB versions will have better coolers, but I'm ok with stock too. But first someone would have to have it in stock.

You can quadfire both the 290 and 290X. The 290 is being released tonight so there may be a better chance of picking it up in lieu of the 290X 😵 If you are going water, reference cards are fine otherwise it is better to wait for the AIB cards near the end of the month.

Sandwiched aftermarket cooled cards that exhaust into the case often times perform much worse than the reference coolers. These aftermarket coolers need space between cards in order to perform as designed.

@GaiaHunter

First batch went absolutely flying (Worldwide), days later pre-orders are still not fulfilled and waiting time was getting bigger. Since the 290 release, the 290X is normalizing slowly here and there. The 290 was a much larger shipment (8X/10X). AIB`s must be buying 290X all up, and demand, otherwise AMD wouldn't price them so cheaply I would think if there were yield issues.

The 280X is also flying (Top/decent models mostly OOS) in the UK/EU, since it was much cheaper over the 770.

The 780 doing much better since price drop and partly bcoz 290X OOS/Non-Ref unavailable.

Info taken from a few retailers worldwide
We could see more price drops from Nvidia (770/780) once the non ref come.
