TLDR: Anyone had issues with a 290 card and older am3 mobos?

I installed a new MSI R9 290 into my fx8350 box yesterday (gigabyte 970A UD3 mobo) and it booted up with odd screen color corruption but booted into win7 and after win7 found new hardware seemed to work fine.

Problem is, only one fan was spinning and obviously running a bit hot for idle. The card seemed to run games ok but pushing 75C quick. I flipped the bios switch on the card to legacy bios and the color corruption/artifact on boot still shows up before windows loads. However, both fans now run, sensors report fan speeds now but seem slower than normal (I have the same card in my intel box). As in reported to be running at 150rpm on idle. The card gets rather loud but does at least spin up under load.

I put the new card into my intel box (already had the same model card in it), everything loaded up fine and tested fine with the card in hybrid bios mode, fan speed seemed low, temps a bit high. A reboot with the 8350's monitor hooked up to the intel box and things seem the same as the original working 290. So its not the monitor.

So I've narrowed it down to mobo/card issues or driver issues. I was already running the latest driver with the 7870 card before install of the 290 but I was lazy and just swapped cards.

Any thoughts? TIA

Seasonic 550w SSR-550RM

I thought of that but according to my UPS, the total system load was pushing 440w while gaming (monitor uses about 45w).

Edit: Intel box has a evga 750w.

I had also problems with my asus 290 with a 890 crosshair iv mobo, also had a light artifacts. The thing i did was just cleaning dust from card and mobo / pcie slot. After that problem fixed
