I think you have made the right choice. I have heard that the 7850 overclocks well so I wish you luck

Yep, my XFX 1GB Core Edition 7850 overclocks like a monster... Up to 1100/1300 stable on stock voltage for 24/7 mining.

I was able to push it/overvolt it a little bit higher but cgminer would crash 🙁

All right guys, I am cancelling the plan to upgrade right now and will upgrade when new cards come. In the mean time, I have managed to overclock my GPU to 950 MHz up from factory overclock of 900 Mhz. Going to stick to it to see how stable and fast it is compared to stock speeds.

the right choice. your card is already fairly powerful for now. the only thing that might be a problem is your vram. but if you are satisfied with the card i would just wait as the next line of gcn 2 cards should be out during the next year or so.

I don't think I can push it that high considering my GPU has only one power connector. 950 MHz is all I am able to manage for now

I tried playing Crysis 3 again today with 950 MHz core and 1300 MHz Memory clocks. I was playing at high settings and it was playing smooth as butter. No stutters or lag.

I checked my VRAM Usage by GPU-Z, it reached 996 MB at places. So you guys were right, a 2 GB card would help me more then buying a 270X.

However, now that I have finished Crysis 3 already and these are the next games I am going to play, I think I won't be needing a 2 GB card at 1080p.

Devil may cry
Thief
Hitman Absolution
Dishonoured
Max Payne 3
Watch Dogs
Titanfall

Guys, I got a good deal here for new Asus Radeon R9 270X which cost me ₹ 15,000 ($250 approx) with eBay discount coupons. I sold my old HD 7850 for ₹ 10,000 ($160 approx). Please don't compare these prices with USA prices as cost in India is generally inflated.

So far, everything I am throwing at it can be played at 1080p with High/Very high settings at near about 50+ fps. I think this should be enough for a long time.

The GPU is near silent when playing games. Maximum temperature was 64C.

Considering Indian prices, that's a pretty decent upgrade, especially considering you are coming from a 1GB 7850. 270s are great! They run much cooler and more silent than any 7850/7870. 270X should last you for a while for 1080p.

270X's are going for $250-280+ in the US and I haven't seen 1GB 7850s going for much more than $100 used. So even if we were to compare the prices, you got one heck of a deal!

I thought the same. The guy who purchased my HD 7850 is not into gaming and is going to use the GPU for Bitcoin mining only.

In benchamraks, Hitman Absolution is giving around 58 fps on average. Max FPS are in the range of 70. I am playing with vSynd on as I don't want tearing.

Yep, well in that case you both walked away with a good deal. 7850s are extremely good performance/$ for mining, regardless of whether it's a 1GB or 2GB version.
