actually... there are NO problems... and the gf3ti500 performance gap is negligeable really (with the 8500 taking the lead in some tests). the visible performance is the same between the 2, 8500 is cheaper and has better FSAA in my opinion...

Speaking of which, does 4x FSAA still cause a massive performance hit on the 8500?

While I wouldnt go so far as to say there are no problems I would say the current drivers are reasonably good. ATi has cleared up most of the major issues and most people seem quite happy with their 8500's.
Besides, each driver release seems to be showing slight performance boosts so one can hope that ATi still isnt quite finished eaking out the last bit of performance out of the 8500 yet.
