This is to take over wireless duties from my FIOS (50\50) provided Actiontec MRWI424 (the advanced N router) which will remain to handle all the Verizon duties it has to handle (DVR).
Its a fairly small 1300 ranch and the Actiontec has provided strong reliable service but I'm looking at jumping on the AC1900 bandwagon (aka spurge for the sake of splurging). The $200 price point is the most I'll pay for a splurge on a router.
I was all set to pick the default recommended AC68U until I came across the usb issue and some reports on problematic setup with printers.
Whatever I get, it will have to be able to run a printer and external HD\flash. It will also have to be able to handle load gracefully (not hit thermal limits under load during the summer if I choose to pop this thing in the basement)
My expectation is that it will need to reliably serve out on the 5ghz and 2.4ghz channels where appropriate (5ghz in the immediate area and 2.4 for the rest of the house).
We have have the 2 phones (AC), 2 laptops (N), couple of tablets(N) and the Wii. TV, xBox, 3 pc's, NAS (which also has a printer attached) and 1 printer are on wired 1gb switch.
From what I've read, the R7000 seems like the best candidate.
Am I overlooking any other candidates?
I did read a bit on the DIR-880L but I have seen complaints on it.
I don't want to pick up something up and then have to juggle firmware or have to make sure its "sitting a certain way" or else it overheats\kills puppies.
