R7 250X (aka HD 7770) 1GB vs. KFA2 GT 1030 2GB....which do you think will be faster?

R7 250X (aka HD 7770) = 640 GCN 1.0 stream processors @ 1000 Mhz, 128 bit GDDR5 @ 4.5 Gbps, 1GB VRAM

KFA2 GT 1030 = 384 Pascal Cores @ 1252 Mhz base clock/1506 Mhz boost clock, 64 bit GDDR5 @ 6 Gbps, 2GB VRAM

P.S. R7 250X is the Video card I used back in 2015 to make a comparison to the Xbox One in Battlefield 4 64 player---> https://forums.anandtech.com/threads/steam-machines-are-being-announced.2423253/page-7#post-37279088 (XBox One BF4 resolution of 720p can be found in this list)

1050 is probably around the 7950 boost/280 level with 640SPs vs 1792 and also much lower memory specs, I think the 1030 will outperform the 7770,

The R7 250X($100) has 2GB vram not 1GB.
That said, it would be a very close contest.
My GT 730($65) is equivalent to HD 7730 so assuming 1030 is twice as fast, it should just about edge out the 7770 aka the R7 250X.
I also have the amd 7750($110) which is now dead and 1030 will definitely be faster than that.
I would hope 1030 can match the 750 non ti which was launched in Feb 2014 for $120 but the 64bit memory means it may to difficult to match it.
Also I'm the 1254 core clock on the 1030 is an overclocked model from Galax so I'm assuming the standard clock speed would be under 1150mhz.
So if one were to somehow overclock the core from 1254mhz to 1450mhz or maybe even 1500mhz,then there is potential to gain another 10-15% extra performance in which case it will definitely easily outperform 250X and match the 750 non Ti.
But these factory overclocked models will probably be $10 more than standard clocked models so its best to buy a standard model and overclock the hell out it and gain another 20% performance.

Do you think a 1030 could benefit from 4gb vram or is that a waste of money?

That is a good question.

Maybe if a 512sp version of the GT 1030 exists? And the 4GB GDDR5 were clocked higher than 6 Gbps?

GT 1030 is a real product now? Neat!

Yep ....and Rumor has it the launch date is May 17:

Low-power artifact GT 1030 released next month: GP108 core global first exposure
2017-4-27 18:40 | Author: Bolvar | Keywords: NVIDIA , GT 1030 , GP108 , entry-level graphics

Earlier rumors NVIDIA will also introduce Pascal architecture entry-level graphics card GT 1030 , and now this matter is basically determined, the card will use the GP108 core, TDP only 30W, is simply a low-power artifact, the price is possible in 499 to 599 Yuan or so.

gp108.jpg

GP108 core global first exposure, looks great, but in fact the area is very small

We also said before the NVIDIA GK208 core GT 730 graphics card after the introduction of very little new entry-level graphics card, or vest products, but also have to use in the notebook or OEM market. This time the GT 1030 graphics card will use the new GP108 core, but the specifications are unknown, before the rumors of the CUDA core number is up to 512, memory bandwidth is not 128bit but 64bit, performance between the GTX 750 and GTX 750 Ti between.

The most critical is that this cargo TDP power consumption is low, only 30W, and ultra-low power also makes the graphics card does not need too complicated specifications, the interface only need PCI-E 3.0 4x.

The last is the date and price of the listing, the more clear news is the May 17 official release, the price there are some variables, there is said to be 499 yuan, there are 599 yuan - it is estimated that NVIDIA is hesitant, after all, AMD side RX 550 graphics card price is not low, is expected to 599-799 yuan, NVIDIA is also thinking about looking at the situation now

For the GT 1030, small super brother (ID: 9501417) WeChat has just broke the news, we can go to his friends circle to see more news, especially domestic prices.

From the previous test RX 550 performance point of view, entry-level graphics play hot online games is still possible, NVIDIA GT 1030 graphics card TDP power consumption than the RX 550 is still 20W, temperature, heat control will be better, in addition to the old platform upgrade In addition, GP108 core is clearly a lot of applications in the notebook market.

The 1050ti can barely match the 960 and the 1050 is slightly faster than a 950. I'd say it's actually slower than a 280. The 1030 should be on par or better than the 750ti.

1030 is the most important graphics card launch in Nvidia's history. The fate of the company rests entirely on the Geforce GT 1030.

LOL. Why do you say that?

I'm assuming that this is an HTPC card, which is sorely needed, and not a real gaming card.

1050 ti beats the 960 very easily

(this gaming X OC is very low)

I think the 1050 non TI can compete with the VGAs I mentioned on newer games (as long as not vram limited)

A gtx960 4gb model is just as fast as a gtx1050ti in most games. Yes 4gb's vram does make a difference.

It seems that GeForce GT 1030 has been confirmed by KFA2.

KFA2 GeForce GT 1030 EXOC White
The leaked model shows an EXOC white edition by KFA2. This card is factory overclocked out of the box. The packaging confirms it’s 2GB GDDR5 model with 64-bit memory bus. It has PCI-E Express 3.0 slot (x8).

According to ElChapuzasInformatico, this card is equipped with 16nm GP108 GPU with 384 CUDA cores (not 512 as previously said). The base clock is 1252 MHz, while the boost clock is 1506 MHz.

More importantly, we have a possible price. This card will go on sale for around 80 EUR.

Christ, on looks alone the Rx 550 is winning.

Anyway, performance wise i'd HOPE the newer card is better, and that is also my prediction.

How do folks feel about the memory bandwidth difference between the two cards?

R7 250X has 128 bit GDDR5 @ 4.5 Gbps
GT 1030 has 64 bit GDDR5 @ 6 Gbps

.....so R7 250X has 50% more bandwidth going by raw numbers.

However, I do remember Nvidia cards gaining additional bandwidth efficiency starting with Maxwell due to increased L2 cache size.

With GM107 in particular being a 128-bit design that would need to compete with the likes of the 192-bit GK106, NVIDIA has massively increased the amount of L2 cache they use, from 256KB in GK107 to 2MB on GM107. This reduces the amount of traffic that needs to cross the memory bus, reducing both the power spent on the memory bus and the need for a larger memory bus altogether.

Also how much differerence in Delta Color Compression?

If someone makes a passive one it could be a good card, but for that KFA2: tiny fan = whiny fan.

I have the following PNY GT 730 GDDR5 (GM208 with 64 bit bus) which according to Nvidia has 25W TDP, but PNY claims 38W active power:

PNY-Graphics-Cards-GeForce-GT-730-1GB-gr.png

And in my HP DC5800 SFF ( example shown below) the system (with 95W quad core) only made a whoosh noise when the system was gaming. Idle was very quiet.

Comparing the KFA2 GT 1030 heatsink fan to the PNY GT 730 heatsink I do think the PNY heatsink looks a lot more efficient though (re: fan on PNY is located centrally and there appears to be a greater amount of fin area)

Besides the obvious comparison to Xbox One (Core i5 2400 or greater IMO would be good for this) and the inevitable use for 4K Netflix (assuming the 3GB VRAM limitation gets fixed by Nvidia) I also wonder about....

1.) how well GT 1030 will work for creative apps with a 4K Monitor or 4K TV.
2.) how well the advanced decode on GP108 would work on 1080p streamed video for folks with very slow internet.

As ridiculous as it is, if you plan on using it for a very long time dedicated vram by the bunches is good. There was a time where people had the Radeon 3650 256mb and 1GB variants. The 1gb variants were able to play some games on low perfectly well, but ram starved games on the 256mb we're completely unplayable. I see that happening again with lower end cards with high amounts of vram.

The 1030 should be on par or better than the 750ti.

If that is true then the GT 1030 (and a CPU like the Core i5 2400 or better) should work very well as a substitute for a Xbox One or PS4 based on the following videos:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iipDWbd6HNg

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gGf4SVWEw2g

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9OE2iI7OLh8

With that mentioned, I was a bit concerned the 64 bit bus on the GT 1030 would hold it back compared to the 128 bit bus on the GTX 750 Ti. However, this article claims Pascal's fourth generation Delta Color Compression is 20% more efficient than the third generation Delta Color Compression first introduced on Maxwell 2.

PascalEdDay_FINAL_NDA_1463156837-012_575px.png

Also when comparing GTX 750 Ti (640sp) to the GTX 960 1024sp) both Maxwell cards share the same 128 bit bus despite the GTX 960 having 60% more cores than the GTX 750 Ti. This leads me to believe the GTX 750 Ti has more bandwidth than it really needs. Furthemore, comparing GTX 1060 6GB 1280sp Pascal core (1506 Mhz base clock/1708 Mhz turbo clock) 192 bit bus at GDDR5 8Gbps......vs. KFA2 GT 1030's 384sp Pascal Core (1252 Mhz base clock/1506 Mhz rturbo clock) 64 bit GDDR5 @ 6 Gbps we see both GTX 1060 6GB and KFA GT 1030 have roughly the same bandwidth to GPU core (base clock) ratio.

I think the gtx1030 will be faster.

it's true that in some games/settings 2GB is going to kill performance and that average is affected but,
graph I posted is from a lot more than just 2 games and more representative, and vram limitation should not impact the 1050 vs 960 when both have 2GB, that shows a Pascal with 640SPs not far at all from Maxwell with 1024SPs, due to the huge clock advantage,

that graph you poste from a game with a 370 (7850 OC) beating a 770, 960 and 1050 ti, seems like a extremely atypical case.
