The R630 must be a pretty powerfull card if it needs a two slot cooler. I wonder if it is really only 128 bits. Could this be the R600 nonOEM, maybe the XL or some 65nm version?

XTX2900 coming March 30th
http://www.tweaktown.com/news/7193/amd_...e_on_r600_details_confirmed/index.html
Max Consumpsion at 240 Watts with only 2x6 PCIe Connectors? It must require 1x6 and 1x8 as they did report earlier for 240W max. We'll see.

Some Ruby shots from the new demo:

Hmmm, we'll see about march 30th. Still, interesting though.

If Nvidia don't get their arses in gear with their drivers I will probably sell the 8800 and get one of these (after seeing if AMD have decent drivers first, by letting someone else be the guinnea pig)

Wonder what the performance difference will be between the x2900xtx and the 8800gtx

The Radeon X2900XT (codenamed Cats Eye also measuring 9.5? but with GDDR3 memory and reduced clock speeds about 15% below XTX) will hit shop shelves on 19th of April.

Hmm, my birthday is the 18th and the high-end value edition of the R600 is being released the next day. That would make a nice belated b-day present.

In the past I thought there had been total of 4~5 revisions of R600. (A01->A02 then change in some 'ingredients' occurs so the number jumps to A11->A12->A13) Some folks argued that AMD's silicons always begin with A1~ so there were only 2 respins, 3 sillicons. (A11->A12->A13) <- Actually I'd like someone to confirm this.

But TweakTown claims a total of 12 revisions / 13 different silicons!? (A01->A02->-->A12->A13) I can hardly believe it. If, I mean, IF it were true, it'd be the biggest joke in the IC history. AMD already had a working version (a fantastic one indeed) of R500 like 2 years ago. (XBOX360) Although vastly improved, one wouldn't be able to deny the root of R600 is R500. There is in no way AMD had to go through 12 respins to produce a target silicon.

I believe the nomenclature is that the first number represents base silicon spins and the second number refers to metal layer spins.
There was a thread on the subject @ B3D a fair while ago if you wanted to search for it.

Didnt the R580 also have about 12 respins on it before they discovered a software glitch 6 months after the fact?

You mean R520? R580 was introduced only a few months after R520. Not sure about respin counts of R520, though.

Another thing that disturbed me from the pics of RD630 and RD610 was that they looked to be dual-slot design. (At least from the leaked pics) I don't know how they measure up from performance point of view, but I can't help but wonder what makes the chip so hot? In the case of RD610, there isn't even an external power connector, which means power is supplied through motherboard circuits only. At 80nm (or is it 65nm?), under 75W, why the need for dual-slot cooler?

Those Ruby screenshots are pretty amazing. Well, Ruby is Ruby but the effects and the photo-realistic quality of objects are stunning. Bleh.. I just ordered a 8800 GTS 320MB for my main rig (which has been suffering with 6200 TC for so long :D ).. Is the launch date semi-official? If so I might as well cancel my order and wait to see..

It looks like 3 different cards. The rv630 and rv610 are the short ones without the cooler, and without external power connector. The dual slot card is longer, and has an external power connector, so it must be some version of the high end r600.

I'm guessing that the third card is either X2900XT or XL, based on the table in the other link. It's too bad that the German site doesn't show how many power connectors there are on that card.

...talking about power connectors... Did anyone else notice that according to the table, the XTX OEM has a 6-pin and an 8-pin, while the XTX Retail has dual 6-pins?

I cant wait to see what the clock speeds are on these babies.

It wouldnt surprise me if the clock speeds come relatively close to 1GHz

Hope to see some benchmarks soon! With the lack of any games worth mentioning, benchmarking and comparing hardware is the next best thing. At least there's the NCAA tournament to provide some distraction. :)

None of the info on those slides were new or exciting.

I hope R600 is good for more than DVD playback.

I really wonder what (if any) new AA modes will be introduced with this card.

So what's the estimated performance increase over an 8800GTX? Wasn't this card due late January? I'm usually pro AMD/ATi, but this has really pissed me off. I'm quite glad I got my 8800GTX back in December - I was hoping I could sell it quickly to get an R600, but now... I might as well not, unless the performance increase is substantial. Any hard specs on the R600 yet?
