64 pipes should be expected as a minimum for the R600 high end part, but there is of course a but
The R600 is moving to a unified shader architecture so first the 64 pipes include vertex and pixel shader power total and second the unified shaders are quite a bit weaker then those used on current segregated parts(they can't handle as much per cycle in terms of computations). As a general rule of thumb you can divide by two to get something more comparable to current standards(ie- the R600 should be comparable to a 32 ALU current architecture part).
